VQ02 - Predetermined City Placement

After turns Notes

- The hovering over Music no longer says "First one to research this tech received a Great Artist", that means someone had beaten us to it. Up to next player whether to veto Music or not.

- Unhappiness strike in Antium. I have sent the axeman on the hills to head back to quell the rebellious citizen.

- Our cultural status:

vq02-cultural-sit.jpg

Carefu with a war against Freddie. He share most of our eastern borders, so we cannt concentrate forces only on city near Arretium. I have pulled back most of our Western Expeidition forces back to our western borders, will take them a couple of turns more to reach the eastern borders. However, I have also built new forces and amass them at Arretium. Most likely eektor can declare on Freddie sometime in the middle of his turnset.

The autolog, if anyone interested:

The Save (eektor, its really your turn now )

Good turns GreyFox...

Um, are you sure we should be attacking freddie? Vicky is the one in the way of our expansion right now. I say if we have the forces amassed, we start a war with vicky to raze that city in the SE. After the city is gone, we can decide to stay at war or switch fronts based on what kind of fight vicky brings.

Just remember that taking more than that one city, and maybe one beyond to take cultural pressure off is about all we should do. If we totally take Vicky out, someone else will just settle in her spot. I say no more than three of vicky's cities, then start "stunting" freddy or ghandi

Well, vicky is definitely the one blocking our completion of tier 2 cities. But I think once Ansazi is removed, the cultura presence of vicky would be gone. Most of the cultural pressure we would experience is actually from freddie.

You might be right though, we might consider taking out anasazi, and perhaps go pillage a little to slow down Vicky (also to help with our coffers a little). Then sign peace, and perhaps extort a tech or 2 from Vicky. Next is to complete the tier 3 cities, and then turn our attention towards freddie.

If that is the case, then next player (yeah is you, eektor, don't worry, its really your turn ) may move the western forces towards southeast, and move the forces at Arretium towards south. There is still time to change our target since we still have to move our western forces anyway.

It is also AD 1000 already, so we should decide on our victory path. Space is looking further and further away, but we still might have a shot at it if we slow Washington down. His GNP is scary.

However, I think conquest may be our best shot.

Well this is my got it post. I'll play in about 7 hours or so just in case its not really my turn  So feel free to tell me if its not my turn.

I agree with oldbustedjorn. We should go to war with Vicky and raze that one city and quickly finish our tier. We also need to improve our GNP too. With tier 3 completed we could put some cities in the west.

City Planner Advisor

The city of Arpinum was founded on 1030 AD. A settler was produced and is waiting to be found a city near the treacherous English city of Ansanzi. With that city we will successfully complete tier 3.

Science Advisor

We discovered music in 1020 AD and Code of Laws in 1060 AD. We are working on Feudalism. Our goal is to get Guilds so we can build Knights. The small detour to get Code of Laws was so we can build courthouses to lessen the city maintenance cost. Besides since we are organized we build courthouses 2x faster.

Diplomacy Advisor

We have heard a rumor that the Americans have declared war on the Germans. We should watch carefully to see if there is an opportunity to strike the Germans while they are down.

Out of all the civilizations I believe we should look for allies for tech trading and for help in times of war. I recommend Persia and India. They are both Buddhist. Unfortunately we are Confucians and nobody else is. We should either get Free Speech and become atheist or try to get another religion in our cities.

Military Advisor

First I would like to report on our war with the Barbarians in our western wasteland. The barbarians keep sending axeman, archers, and warriors and send them to be slaughtered against our well trained praets. I believe they have a city close by and as seen on the map I believe the city could possibly be located on the red spot or fairly close by it.

Alright preparations are going well for the sneak attack against the English. We must remember they have more military power than us. It might be wise to try to get someone else to declare war on them first. Our spies report that there are two military units guarding Ansazi, a longbowman and a spearman. The city has a cultural defense of 45%. There are at least 15 units inside London. We do not want the war to drag on. We should take the city pillage some of the improvements around London and Hasting and make peace soon after.

hmm... actually, only one. The next tier is only one city each directly North, South, East, West of our capital, forming a rhombus.

PS: :woohoo: my 300th post!

EDIT: opps, sorry, didn't mean to post in the middle of your report

So my turnset was a lot different from before so let me know what you think. Most of my ideas I put it in the advisors so that kind of took the place of my after turn comments.

Just a quick note, the English are strong but we can take Ansazi no problem. The only problem might be if the war drags on longer than we want. Hopefully we can make peace soon after we raze Ansazi.

Here's the save:

Hmm, I see Antium is still unhappy ... can we have more military there? Its suppose to be our prod powerhouse ... not that productive if there is unhappy citizen eating food without putting in work, eh?

I doubt the barb city is at red dot ... if it is, we should be able to see the black border in your screenshot. Might be further into the fog.

A well-played turnset, eektor. I half expecetd you to declare on Vic in your 10-turns reign though ... I am sure bobrath leave us with enough troops. Perhaps the barbs is slowing ouir war machine down. Lets send some fortified archers out there for barb duty.

-

:wallbash: I didn't think about putting a military unit in the city. Anyways Antium should be done with the temple in I think 2 or 3 turns so it would not be a problem soon.

Good point on the red dot. I think there is one somewhere around there though. There seems to be a regular stream of barbarians coming from that area.

I was thinking of going through with the war but I had all my troops ready on the spot in turn 9 so I decided to hold it and do a little bit more spying of the english cities.

Who's up now..? All that eektor/grey fox switching confused me (not to mention OBJ changing names!!)

Cause I thought this was the "official" order:
player 1: Maquis
player 2: bobrath
player 3: Greyfox
player 4: eektor
player 5: oldbustedjorn

(Maquis didn't update the first post when we rearrainged)...

I definatly think we want to declare and raze Anazai. From there I'm still up in the air about continuing on. If Vicky is ahead of us tech-wise, we should be careful with her.

Well, by the time we raze the city, we'll probably see what she can throw at us... And if not, I will press on till we get slowed down significantly (either by badly damaged units or losing them altogethr) or raze a few other cities.

The only way I see us doing conquest is we continually stomp enemies without stopping to rebuild. I don't think we have enough of a tech lead to do that.

imo, if we wanted to go conquest... we should have taken Saladin down. We're basically blowing the turns our praets would have been most effective by walking them all over our empire.

I do understand that taking Saladin out (who is low on the tech pole) leaves Ganhdi a ton of room to expand, but he would be the next logical target after Saladin. Its just too bad that we have no idea how big the south really is in terms of settled lands. I'll be interested to watch the replay on this one.

Vicky has longbowmen so it could be a bloody battle. We might want some more catapults to soften up the longbowmen. The ex barbarian city would be easy to take though.

You know I was thinking this could have been good for a cultural victory. It might be too late now to start that way though.

If we did take out Saladin, I think we would have got stuck with a stalemate against the Indians because of they are more advanced than us.

I think we need some direction and stick with it. Should we take the English city and then make peace or stay at war with them til we take them out? Also Frederick should be getting weak since he is at war with the Americans.

Remember tho that Fred is cultural so his borders will always push us harder then Vicky's.

If it weren't that I believe Washington needs to be slowed down too, I'd suggest jumping on Fred now. We don't have many friends, mainly due to our lack of common religion (imo)... so if we get a chance to be in a "mutual military struggle" it would be a good thing.
