From what I remember, Gandi only has only one small(ish) city that we would have to take out for the city to the south. Not sure how the culture battle would turn out though...
Another thing I should mention, if we can get the 2 cities done to open the next tier, the location just to the north of Setia (in the west) has gold. Might be nice to get to the point of being able to work it.
And, if we decide to anything with ghandi, I would do it first and sue for peace. Then we can hit freddie because I believe he has cities that affect both the current tier and the next tier. Ghandi may have that too by then but I don't know if we can last that long with him...
@bobrath: Nothing says you have to go to war during your turns... you can always just set it up for Greyfox.. I'm sure his inner warmonger will appreciate it
No, seriously, before decalring on Ghandi, check if Ghandhi has any religion we don't have. We want that religion to spread to us before hitting on Ghandhi. The best way to encourage religion spread is to have active trade with someone who found that religion.

Apparently Washington decided he didn't like us very much... Caused some unhappy cause we were picking up some silver from him. Cyrus filled that gap. I fended off the first wave, but we have a crossbowman outside our city:
I've left a praet further out east to attract some attacks.
Nothing else on the horizon from Washington... he may even be willing to accept peace.
That's the bad news. The good news?
Right after I adopt Hinduism... Buddhism Spread to Antium!!! We've got 3 religions and picked up one that some of the power players actually have. We're currently worshiping big gold fat guys. Makes Gahndi happier with us. I've spread Hind to Rome and am building a monastery up in the NE to pop out missionaries as well. Next player in addition to fending off Washington (our peace deal with Vicky expired during my turns also...) can have fun spreading the faith(es).
Here's our world:
I did manage to build some castles even before I was at war. Actually did that for the +1 culture we get from them, but it helps a bit in case of war too.
Bit of pillaging in what used to be Vicky's lands - its free money.
Currently Researching Philo so we can go for liberalism if we want to try.
I had this great idea for sneaking in our south city:
Get Antium to 1000 culture and then use the GArt to pop the borders... giving us the spot south! Too bad Karachi is within 2 boxes of that spot. Even if we control the culture there, you can't build a city. So either we flip (and raize) Karachi or we'll have to beat up our new friend Gahndi to have a chance.
We have 2, yes TWO settlers. One in Antium and one in Pisae. Not sure why, but ah well. Whenever we decide to take down Karachi (if we do), have a settler right on the spot and as soon as we take the town - next move (not turn) found. That might sneak us in before Vicky's borders pop out. If we're gonna do it tho... sooner is better.
I double whipped Antium to finish the library and get a missionary out - so need to leave it be. The sooner we can spread our state religion (bud) the better as many cities are on the cusp of real unhappy and are being held there mostly by military inspired loyalty...
I guess its a bit more clear to go with culture win. It would be nice to be able to use those settlers and get two or three more cities.
The problem I see with war to expand is that as time goes on, the AI is taking up more and more space. If we wait until the war with washington is over and start one with, say, freddy - Ghandi will probably have expanded into the empty space to our west.
This means we'll either need a protracted war with Ghandi, or two insanely fast strikes on both Freddy and Ghandi to finish the tier. I say we concentrate on staying alive and winning by culture. Of course, if everyone else disagrees, I don't mind a little ...

Yeah, that's too bad, about the 2-tile tule. Otherwise this would be a great idea. That tile is just a mess to try to get a foothold on. If we take out Karachi, we have to watch out that Vicky's culture does not take the tile. We really are not going to have any friends if we're picking off (and razing) one city from each AI.
I agree too that staying alive and winning with culture is the best bet. However, I'd really like us to be able to finish the tier in order to get the other 2 cities to the west opened up.
Right now Gahndi is our bestest buddy - no negatives with him. I know that we want to expand, but I'm not certain that ticking off *every* AI in the game is the best way to do things.
Its a rock and a hard spot. We want to expand, but doing so will make us more of a target.
Before we declare on Freddie or G-India, lets check the relations and see how many friends we'll be ticking off.
I believe that George came after us because our religion aligned with his "worst enemy". He may be amenable to a peace as we've converted away, but it may take droping deals with Saladin...
Washington came almost directly through Vicky's lands in the SE. Dunno if that's where he really is tho! oh and btw he has guilds... so make sure we have pikemen for those knights that have to be coming soon...
Setia has no religion and I'd like to leave it that way for a few more turns, just to see if we can luck out to a fourth religion.
I would recommend staying out of war until we can safely attack Ghandi and/or Frederick without the whole world crashing down on us.
I still don't think its worth expanding, not because I don't want the cities though. Just because we need to attack both and fast enough that they don't resettle.

I checked to see if anyone would jump on Washington through most of my turns. Folks like him more then they like us. Vicky... well she's not feeling too generous since we did kind of attack and raize her recently.
anyway, I will get rid of any forces washy dared bring to our lands. He has chosen unwisely ....
I have looked at the save, Gandhi has a religion we don't -- taoism (founded by washington). I would not attack him to see if taoism can be obtained from him ... don't think Washington would be spreading taoism to us ... ... and not to mention Ghandi is above us in power, and is score leader.
Also, Mansa Musa has yet another religion we don't have ... judaism ... I will try to open up more trade with him to get one of our city converted too.
ABt the settler, can't we settle right at the northern edge of the map (at the deer)? Anyone know if that is allowed?
We actually don't need more city ... our top priority now is to get religion spread across our empire, so I would not go attack-crazy ... definitely not while washington is on our toes.
I got it but will play tomorrow morning around 9am (GMT+8). Now is too late (1 am).
I just don't think we would want to settle to the north, only becuase 1/2 of the city tiles would be missing. As soon as Neopolis' borders expand once more, I think we would get access to the deer anyways...
If I remember correctly, we weren't supposed to settle near water if it wasn't on the coast or fully on land. We should treat the edge the same way. We don't settle there unless all squares are available (unless we want to, but we don't have to).
"Good. ... but why did we lost a pasture?"
"er... we failed to notice an American warrior sneaking in from SW ... "
"What!!!? ... Guards, chop off his head! "
"But, Sire, there are troubles in NW! You need me alive!!"
"I don't care, that's Lord Eektor's problem, not Mine!"

From the Spiritual Advisor
- We still only have 3 religions.
- Our state religion is Bud to keep most AI happy, but only one city is enjoying the benefit of OR. Recomend we spread Bud as fast as possible.
- we need 1 more confused city, 5 more Hindu cities, 8 more bud cities.
- Remember to build temples for the Synag-type buildings in the 3 cultural cities!

- I have some pikemans in the SE city, should be enough to deter any other agression from Washington. Too bad we don't have open borders with Vicky. I am tempted to bring the WAR to washington. Maybe can do that via Gandhi's land. However, priority is to spread the religions!
