VQ05 - The Conquistadors

Hmmm, something fishy is up from the save...

Sword razes Bactra. I hope this isn't disagreed with... (btw, Bactra was on the island W of Persepolis)

I still see Bactra here, and the sword is still on the island.

ChrTh: Did you upload the save before you took the turn?

I'll wait to play and see what is up...

:wallbash: ... I did, I'm sorry Maquis. Do you want me to try to recreate what I did? (I had looked in the directory to see what saves were in there, saw 1200AD, and didn't save again :suicide: )

Ok, I finally got a chance to play my turns (after a bit of confusion)

Since I had to "re-do" ChrTh's last turn, it took me a bit more to take Bactra... but I re-razed it. Too much overlap with Paselgrad.

Turn 9: The battle of Susa. Cats bombard down to 0%. Mace attacks, loses to longbow. Second mace attacks, loses to axe (at 90%) Sword takes out longbow, last sword takes out axe. Susa is ours! (I kept it)

I did not see Qin's borders engulf Susa on turn 120, so I think that we'll be ok. I'd still suggest hiring artists once it comes out of revolt, to get the first culture pop.

After taking Susa, I got peace, and all Cyrus' gold. I have no idea where his last city is!

Turn 10: Great Scientist born in Toledo... I have him create the Academy in Toledo (it's producing the most beakers, with all the scientists hired)

Also, I have built a few hindu missionaries, and have been spreading the faith. I think we can switch to Hindu soon, to please the AI.

Research: Once Guilds came in, I traded with Mansa for Comapass, and then set research to Optics. No other AIs had it. It came in 5 turns, and Qin got it a turn before us... no big deal. Currently building a Caravel in Pasegrad, and there is an explorer waiting there to board We may also want ot build one in Barcelona, once the forge is done in 2 turns... send one Caravel each direction, and drop the explorer off in the new world. This should give us a good shot at circumnavigating.

Oh yeah, the roster! (Since I never really posted it cince ChrTh stepped in)

Maquis - Just played
GreyFox - Up!
seezachswim - on deck
bobrath -
ChrTh -

What is the plan tech-wise now that we have optics? Are we planning on beelining to Astronomy and galleons or something else?

Also, how high will the maightenence cost be for cities built on the other continent? Do you think we will have to wait for State Property before trying to seriously colonize it?

Tech-wise, I would go try a shot on Liberalism freebies ... we can nab astronomy from there, if we have a chance. Looking at F4, no one has paper, so we might have a chance ... I don't know.

Religion-wise, I would most likely convert to Hin: Our own cities count, bud only has one more city than Hin. But, reverting to Hin would ensure Mansa is please with us.

With scientists overwhemming Toledo, we are never going to get our Great Phopet. The great prophet is huge, once a shrine is built, we would get at least 9gpt. That is equivalent to 3 scientist specialist (not counting representations).

Confessions of A Fanatics

I have always grown up wanting to be a crusador ... I think conquistador is a stupid name. I rather call myself the Inquistor ... This I confess.

So, I secretly changed the previous ruler's artist in persepolis to priest ... I don't see a point in developing art ... we need more religious fanatics! We need the shrine! we need to launch the holy crusade! As such, I ordered some missonaries, and started a religion revolution to Hinduism. I know, we have been Buddhist for quite some time .. but hinduism is so much more exotic ... even the goddess is female ... this I confess.

Maybe I have focused wrongly on religion, Father. The circumnavigation bonus would be nice, but just as our caravels set off, QSH has already cirumnavigated the globe. This I confess.

One more confession, Father. I wasn't that good with diplomacy, Father. Louis seems a nice guy, so I open bordered with him.

vq05-1310AD-louis-ob.jpg

He later dare come here and extort money from us!

vq05-1390AD-louis-extort.jpg

What audacity! I was half tempted to send my conquistador for a holy crusade, but I caught myself, and make do with "Go Fu@k yoursef." This I confess.

Our ex-war-ally had also signed peace with the victim of our first Crusade. Things seems to be going on well with him, until he beat us to the cirumnavigation and plant Tianjin at where he shouldn't be ...

vq05-1370AD-tianjin.jpg

I yearned so much to send in my Crusadors and tear down his so-called great wall ... but I relented. Better to keep him happy. I fear his military might. This I confess.

And does anyone know how QSH managed to change each coastal tile to a gold bag? Even with colossus and being Finiancial, atmost i can be 4 gold coins. But. most likely a graphics glitch ....

That salad salesman had also come asking for a tech. He must be kidding me. I would stuff his salad back up his bottom if I had it my way. I am a violent man, Father. This I confess.

vq05-1400AD-jc-trade.jpg

The ony good guy is our newest brothers in faith, Mansa. So I traded world map with him. ... actually, the main reason why I agreed is because the emissary he sent was so beautiful ... this I confess.

vq05-1400AD-mansa-map.jpg

nd, Father, I like to confess my biggest sin of all. I have secretly been lying down the foundation for our people to be liberated.

vq05-1350AD-banking.jpg

vq05-1400AD-paper.jpg

I know, this is scarilegious ... it will cause our people to want to be free of religious binding ... but I was lured to the promise of a free tech ... no one has paper yet, so we are having a high probability of getting liberated first. I know, I shoudn't have wavered in the true course for the greed of a free tech ... this I confess.

Not to make you feel any worse, but this:
So, I secretly changed the previous ruler's artist in persepolis to priest ... I don't see a point in developing art

probably led to this:
Things seems to be going on well with him, until he ... plant Tianjin at where he shouldn't be ...

:hmm:

...how did Qin beat us around the world so quickly?!? I say we kill him

EDIT: BTW, that was some very nice writing there, you'd be perfect as the scribe in the SGOTM :groucho:

Should we trade for Qin's map now that we have paper? Will help us in our conquest of the new world if it shows us where the new world is.

That gold bag graphic around qin's city was probably not a glitch. He's probably just in a golden age. That would also explain his insanely high GNP.

Turn 0: Take a look at all the cities, everything looks pretty good.

Turn 1: Madrid Market>Granary, Persopolis Lighthouse>Forge. Turns out Qin
was in a golden age because it ended this turn. His GNP is now a more reasonable 126.

Turn 2: It looks like were in a really bad position financially right now, at 50 percent science we still
have a small deficiet. Seville Forge>worker, Parsagaede Library>Forge. It looks like we have a small worker shortage right now.

Turn 3: Madrid Granary>Hindu Missionary. I'm not going to start it anywhere this turn, but does anybody have any ideas on where the
heroic epic should be placed? If we plan on conquering the new world were going to need a steady stream of troops. I would say that madrid might be the best place now,
but I wasn't sure if anyone else had a different plan.

Turn 4: Ouch, our income drops by about 20 gpt. I'm not quite sure why there was such a drastic drop because I didn't get any notices about deals canceling.
Also, our first explorer reaches the new world! The second one should be on the other side in a couple of turns.

Turn 5: Seville worker>Harbor, Cordoba Hindu Monastary>Hindu Temple, Santiago Granary>Forge, Susa Hindu Missionary> Hindu Monastary.

Turn 6: Madrid Hindu Missionary>Bank. In Persopolis I fire the artists because it has gone over the 100 culture mark.
I also see the last persian city which is peeking out under the fog right above persopolis.

Turn 7: Toledo Courthouse>Hindu Temple. It looks like their might actually be two new worlds.

Turn 8: Barcelona Courthouse>Harbor, Seville Harbor>Bank.

Turn 9: Damn it, one of our explorers dies to a barbarian longbow. The new world is infested with barbs. A spanish revolt takes place in Tiajan (the city that Qin placed right next to persopolis).

Turn 10: Cordoba Hindu Temple>Buddhist Monastary. A great scientist is born in Toledo. I will let the next leader decide on what to do. I suggest using him for tech after eductation is done, simply because our cities are
to beaker poor at the moment to justify an academy. Also, if we want a Great prophet, now would be a good time to fire all the scientists in toledo.

Summary: mostly a builder turn, our finances are in really bad shape right now. It don't think any of the other civs have paper yet, so this is a good sign for getting liberalism. ChrTH mentioned possibly taking out the chinese. I think this would be a very good idea at the moment because they are our main competitors and are really putting the squeeze on Cordoba. Of course, I tend to be a little over aggressive in my games , so you probably shoudn't listen to me.
