Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

Stickied in this forum is a thread for important GMR announcements, such as finding subs. Post there. :)

Game is not on holiday's or else...no thread to post problems with GMR and no direct way to contact the GMR admins about. :(

They will respond pretty quickly, I think you just got them on the weekend. Give it a day or two.

Edit: this is the right thread to contact them. They've either been busy or haven't understood the problem yet, or both.

Hey Regul, sorry for the late response! If I understand things correctly you've encountered some issues where players are getting save files that it isn't their turn in, some of these players have left and you're unable to create invite links to harness substitutes.

I'll take a look at your game and see if I can straighten out why people are seeing turns that don't belong to them. Unfortunately this is usually due to someone saving and submitting without finishing their turn, but there have also been a couple strange bugs in GMR popup recently around this that we're looking into. I'll let you know what I find.

As for inviting players to take over for the AI, I would be happy to manually put back any of the original players that left due to the messiness. Just tell me their name and civilization. And you are correct, it does appear that our "Generate invite links" feature is broken, likely when we made the change to allow invites to an in-progress game. Thank you so much for bringing it to our attention, we'll get that fixed as soon as possible! :)

Hey m4stermel,

thx for your response...actually feared loosing more players from this game due to the huge problems.
Game post at civfanatics: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=474136

The problem might be hanging on vra379971 (Babylon), he isn't firm with GMR at all and might have caused the starting of this.

First to leave was robh (Russia), who's rejoin is blocked by the 2 games rule.
Last one was JackAlmighty (Mongolia), who just missed 2 turns and is beeing kicked. No idea for which reason, probably he was missing a DLC.

Would be very nice to get robh back into it if possible. Replacements for the other positions should come when i could generate inviting links again.

BTW, is there a thread for this kind of 'please help me' posts? I didn't want to join twitter or other social networks for a simple notice...

Best regards,

Regul/Skukkuk

Alright I think I've gotten your game back to a playable state with robh back in as Russia. There were several turns that were submitted as the wrong player. I know it takes some people a bit to fully understand how it works, but it's very important that they save and submit after ending their turn. And if someone gets a save passed to them that isn't really on their turn they shouldn't pass it along, that can actually cause more problems.

Good luck and if you want to contact us you're welcome to use this forum thread or email us at support@multiplayerrobot.com

Glad you managed to save us the game, Mel! Many thx for the assistance. ;)

Will certainly store the support email, for any further requests.

Do I get an immortal hat, an emperor's crown, or a king's robe? :p

Semi-seriously, in addition to named levels for your donors, you'd be surprised how much silly little graphical rewards will motivate some people. It's bells and whistles, though, you're probably focusing on more important stuff. Im not sure if it would open anyone's wallet more or quicker...I just know that I've played some games I was pretty bored with and over, just so I could get the next fancy helmet, or whatever it was.... :king:  :crazyeye:

+1 regarding Onan's suggestion. It does take time to add some bonus item(lets call them *hats*) but it does add some additional value and is a powerful incentive for someone on the edge.

Hi, GMR GOD, recently I started the scenario game and found out that the difficulty level should be set to prince unlike the other normal games we can set higher. Otherwise once the scenario loads into GMR, other player will receive more settlers and bonus but the host has none.

I thought you should put that info in the GMR website, or did I miss that info somewhere.

An excellent suggestion as always, and one that we definitely plan to do! We're steadily working on quite an update to GMR that will introduce an entire forums and community system, complete with accomplishments, badges, and bling! Probably the first set of awards and accolades we'll introduce will be for our paid users, in which case you sir will definitely enjoy a nice title and fancy graphic for your generous support! :king:

Unfortunately we don't have an ETA at the moment, but I would guess it will be several weeks or a month out. We are working on a few maintenance level changes to the client and website which will take priority. :)

We probably do need to spell this out better when hosting a game, but if the game you're creating is Private then we won't touch the difficulties set in the save file. If it's public we'll override them, setting everyone to Prince. I'll have to double check with Brian to see if this still applies to Scenario games.

Thanks for pointing this out, and we'll address it right away!

Hey Regul, I've fixed the generate game invite link. Let me know if you there's anything else I can do to help!

All done, very special thx from my side for the assistance. Game is back on tour, invite link is generated as well. :goodjob:

Some ideas i got, while wondering about AI controlled empires:

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a GMR section to post vacant empires?
It's kind of tricky to find replacement players, as the allready started games couldn't be shown at GMR any more. I'd vote to have a option for the host to promote AI controlled empires searching for replacements directly in the GMR browser.

Background is, that i'm involved into 2 games with vacant positions while similar new games open up searching for more players. Wouldn't it be better to first fill those games that are allready running?

Besides i've read about the idea to have more then 1 player controlling a single empire, which is inspiring too. This could be done through such a replacement section too. Fitting into the game, where leaders follow the other's footsteps through the centurys. It might be a good idea to have somewhat like a leader-history showing up for a long lasting empire then.

How about?
As for the technical workout, the replacement section just re-posts allready started games, just like the 'Game Browser' section at GMR.

I have G&K and I have an account on steam, established during the certification phase. My steam id is Herc90. But I have no idea what password I used.

I tried to join GMR via steam thinking it would pick it up login and password automatically, but no it asks for steam username and then password. I tried a number of the ones I usually use.

I log into steam to be online but that doesn't help.

I remember reading about a poster with a similar problem.

I tried trying to find info on this but keep going round in circles.

Any ideas

You can always reset your Steam password, tough if it was made a looooong time ago, you might not remember the secret question/answer

This is a really good idea! I'll add it to our task list to allow a host to re-post their game in the public game browser, to try and pick up replacements for any AI players. :)

Check out Steam's guide for regaining your password. It's likely that you simply need to reset it :)

What is the plan now that you can exit to main menu in hotseat with the upcoming patch?

We rejoice and praise Firaxis for listening to their players and continuing to polish an already amazing game!!! :D :king: [party]
