Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

If the game has already started then the players who don't have the required DLC will need to "Surrender" on the website. After they've surrendered you can invite new players to join the game and fill their spots. Alternately it might be easier to just re-create the game and make sure that only players with the required DLC join it.

Does GMR include all DLC or only DLC that are used in this particular scenario game ?

Players should only need the DLC civs that were used in the particular GMR game. When GMR loads the scenario save file that you give it when creating the game, it will read from that file what civs are being used and automatically select those civs on the website. If one or more of those civs are a DLC civ then the game will be marked "DLC". But for players to participate they will only need the specific DLC civs used. Does that make sense?

Yes it makes sense ! But the random "ghost" civ was DLC and I had the wonders pack as well....

A player without DLC will launch tha game. Thx

Awesome, sorry for any confusion. I hope it works well for you after this and let me know if you need anymore help! :)

If you'd like to get some human players to replace any AI players in your game you may now choose to show your game in the "Public Games" list, allowing people to see it more easily. You can also let people join the game on their own, or require that they have an invite. Hopefully this will help you bring more life to your in-progress games!

As always, please share any feedback or questions! :)

great extention for the allready running games. defenetly a good feature that i'll use to find replacements.

as for my sound problem, it didn't fire again. ending civ5 on my own never showes the problem. anyhow, it seems solved.

a question for further automatisation: is it possible to post technical game stats or even a (probably empty) map from a running game, so people could check before joining in?

I guess the host can mention the game stats in the comment section. Simple as that.

Hi all,

Sorry to disturb you again, but i have another problem with the custom game i am trying to make. I did everything as we discuss, i launch the game, now it is my first turn.

But when i select the save in the hotseat menu my game crash... I tried several times and it is always the same.

My game name is "E Pluribus Unum".

I gonna be very happy if you can help me on this.
Thank you

Could this be some kind of bug? or just server problem?

You see, in the GMR website, this game shows it's my turn now, but in the GMR application, it shows not, and 'turn expired ...' not 'turn expires in ...'

Game 935 got the same problem, but I downloaded the file and manually submitted after the turn. Will do the same for the above game. The app shows to the next player, so it's ok now. May be something to do with Islandia's account, who may be on vacation mode.

Thanks for the feedback Regul! I'm glad that you were somehow able to solve your sound problem. And while it's a really neat idea to be able to automate information on a game's current status for prospective new players coming into it, it's technically not possible for us to do. Like EEE_Boy said, the host will need to provide this information.

Thank you for reporting this! It is most likely a bug with GMR. We implemented a change on our server last week that allows it to cache game information that is requested by the desktop app. This results in a tremendous improvement in response time as well as greatly reducing the load on our server since we eliminated a lot of overhead in going to the database each time. However we're still finding and correcting some glitches with this new implementation that cause the client to get out of sync with the server as to who's turn it is and when the last turn was played.

I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience this causes and will get it all fixed up as soon as possible!

Was out for the weekend but taking my turns now. Hold your horses!

Thank you. Glad that I helped to report a bug.

I know you are out in a weekend. Just that both bugs appear in the game that you are before my turn and have turn timer. The rest games are fine.

(Clearly bugs came from you :p)

Glad I can cause bugs without even being here for them :)

Mel can you take a look at this game for me.

It was the first game I played after the last update. It loaded up a different game that I was playing (not the correct one) so I reverted the turn back a few hoping that would fix it but now the other players are having problems.

Thanks.:)

I'm not sure what happened there but the save file for deadlyfred was definitely messed up. I reverted back to BingBang's turn and test played his turn to verify that it worked. So he should be able to replay his turn (which with respect to GMR games seems to be a pretty big one!) and then we'll see how it goes from there.

Please let me know if anything else gets messed up. And if BingBang can let me know when he's submitted his turn I can go back and play test it for deadlyfred to see if it works.
