Does anybody know of any good fictional war books?

If anybody has played Red Alert 2, I'm looking for that kind of storyline.

Thanks

IIRC their is a Tom Clancy book called "Red Storm Rising" that explores this. I've not read it, but I have heard good things about it. However, you will not find any of the classic RA2 tongue in cheek b-movieness in there, if thats what your looking for.

I've read Red Storm Rising and it was pretty good. I like to get deep into a
character and there are way too many to do this in this book, but I still
enjoyed it :D .

Tom Clancy's The Hunt For Red October is quite good. It became a fil with Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery.

i cant recommend any Fiction

But for Non Fiction One Book I would Highly recommend
The forgotten Soldier - Guy Sajer

Absolutely realisticly BRUTAL chronical of a conscript on the Eastern Front. I hold this book above every other war book. Nothing else comes even close.

The Five Fingers is a VERY interesting book, I forgot the author's name  . I will get back on Fri. and give his name. It is
a Vietnam era story based on an assasination attempt by special
forces into N. Vietnam.

I look at my collection of books and found a non-fiction I found entertaining
Invasion - Eric L Harry

TheThirteenth Valley by John M. del Vecchio is a great novel about Viet Nam. Not sure it's still available, but worth finding.

War Day. The guy who did the alien books co-wrote this, I think. I might be confusing him with another author tho.

It's from the point of view of two friends who go around the country post-WW3. It's not a military book per se, but it goes into what they think the after effects would be.

I'll warn you. I put this book down the first time I read it because it was too depressing. But it does end on a semi-positive note. It was also written about 20 years ago, and takes place then.

It's out of print, but A Talent for War, by Jack McDevitt. Again, not really a war book, but the war is a central theme to the book. It's SciFi, but pretty good read.
----

More sci-fi, but pretty good. The Last Legion, by Chris Bunch. Four books, not too long. Pretty good. Also check out Legion of the Damned, by William Dietz. Another four book series. Both series have books about 300 pages long, maybe a bit more. Not to wordy, like Clancy, and not skimpy on the details. Both series are well written.

'Sall for now...I'll probably be back with more.

How could I forget A Rumor of War, by Philip Caputo? About the Vietnam war, right at the beginning. Another good VN book, this one fiction, is Word of Honor, by Nelson DeMille. Great story...

@wilbill- the 13th Valley is an excellent read ;) . I forgot about that one.
:goodjob:

"Armour at Fulda Gap" is good too, but I cannot recall the Author.

Google may know...

Harry Turtledove's Great War series is good also.

And his series World War in the Balance which is about an alternative WWII with aliens invading earth sometime in 1942 and taking the timeline into the 60's. Guns of the South is also good as an alternative history to the US civil war.

Earlier wise I'd reccomend the Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell and his series on the civil war also. Sven Hassel's books are good for WWII also :)
