Warhammer Fantasy Mod 2.0

Playing a PbEM game with a friend at the moment. I guess it would have been better with a map to give fairer start locations, but as I'm winning I'm not too concerned ;-)

Life is good. WH 2 for civ, WH40K:DOW as an RTS, and had that tau FPS been a little better, we would need not bother with other games. It would be warhammer year.

Guess what... It is!

Greetings all,

Am new to the forum here, but joined so that I could comment on the WH2 mod. Kudos to the design team. I have never seen anything like it. I have been a big fan of the Warhammer books and games for years, and this truly captures the essence of both.

The units are beautiful, the animations excellent, the terrain is better than the original. It is hard to say enough positive things about this mod. It is a pleasure playing it, far more enjoyable than the original game, and I have played every Civ game since the original.

All this just makes me wonder why if it can be done here, Firaxis cannot or will not do the same, and spice the game up a bit, like putting in civ-specific wonders. The different factions are so similar, using the same unit pool except for the one special unit...that is not enough to give it the flavor desired. A single dromon does not convey the majesty or complexities of the Byzantine Empire any more than the F-15 captures the essence of America.

Again, well done! I can't get enough of this mod.

Hi there,
Just a short note, to let all WFM players know that I'm alive. I will probably need days to catch up with everything, but I intend to do that and continue to develop the mod. I certainly do not have so much time as I had before, but I don't want 2 years of work to die, especially seeing that since the release, the mod is in the top 10 downloads at 3ddownloads.com, still above very many demos/patches/mods of mainstream titles :D

Any issues, questions etc. posted in September, will be most likely answered this week. Now, I have to start reading...

Could anyone who is more familiar than I with the many cultures answer this? Would it be too overpowering to increase all the dwarves' defense ratings by one? I have always considered dwarves' strength to be stocky defenders, and while I realize that they have an increase in hitpoints, I am not sure that is 'enough' of a difference. Yet, I don't want them to be unfair.

Thanks
Jonathan

Freyland, Remember each extra hit point allows an additional round of battle, reflecting the dwarves stockiness and stalwart defendability. I'm sure you could increase it by one, but the majority of the units and defensive structures in the game are fairly well balanced and offer numerous stacking possibilities (recent game: 15 dwarven defenders in a size 8 city on a hill wil a keep and a castle - take that Khemri! - held off a giant ass SOD).

Can you mod it further yourself, sure ;) . it's on your drive, however you would be giving hte dwarves, already a powerful civ in their own right in the latter half of the game (when they really shine), an unfair advantage when comparing to the other civs.

My 2 cents. V

Ok, sure this has been posted before but not going to read through 90+ pages :P Anywho, were are my Skaven? :hmm: On another note, playing a game as the Lahmians then later the Albioners (just downloaded it) I was unable to mine grasslands/plains, only tundra/desert. Is this a functional part of the mod or is it a fixable bug? Thanks for your forthcoming help, btw, great mod :D

Vanadorn

Aye, I agree with your words. I just wanted someone with more experience to confirm that my idea would be off-balancing. Thanks for answering, and of course thanks for your Pax Romana thread!

Now, if I could just get you to play MP with me....

@GrandSultan: There's no skaven unit gfx available, thus no skaven.
No mining on grassland/plains is a design decision, not a bug.

Ok, I read a few pages in and found the Skaven issue, if I could I would make them but I dont have any experience with model making so they might come out very poorly... On the other hand thanks for your help, not being able to mine those bonus grasslands was killing me for awhile. Otherwise great mod, just finished my first game as the Khemri, just wondering if you were planning on putting in any more undead units for them besides minion/dragons, skeletal chariots would be nice, or swordsman as I was lacking serious offensive power until the dragons came in, but not a huge issue, still completly playable. Thanks again. :)

Graphics again there are the issue. There seem to be too many people like you or me who have little or no ability in the model making area. What we really need is a cloning machine and some of ED's DNA. :)

No units planned in near future I'm afraid. I started working on the 2.03 patch that will include the newest units, mostly by Kinboat ie. spiders and Egyptians (here known as Nehekharans :) ). I will soon ask the map makers to "upgrade" their maps to 2.03, add my own, and start the map/scenario thread finally.

@KayEss
Since governments in this mod do not function as in epic Civ3 game (they are not changeable, but fixed to a given faction, affecting its diplomatic relations), their corruption settings are different. Monarchic factions experience least corruption of all four types, equivalent of Civ3 Democracy IIRC. Despotism has lower corruption, but it's still not the Civ3 Despotism - ie. it doesn't have the tile penalty, and has some pro's and con's comparing to Monarchy or Chaos.

Ok, sounds great, just one more question, I extracted your map into my conquests scenario folder but it dosn't appear as a selection when I run Civ3 and go to Civ-Content, is there something else I need to do?

Whose map? There are several mapmapkers in this thread... Anyway, just make sure you extracted it so that the map file (*.biq) is in the Scenarios folder, not in some subfolder (common error is to unzip files to a folder with archive name).

I did extract it to just the scenario folder and not a sub one but the file name is WH-World-140.bix, is that the proper one?

Edit: I tried to DL it again and when I extracted it, it was put into its own subfolder, still not showing up.

Edit2:I tried and can open it in the editor if that matters, no Lizardman or Lahmia start though, I dought that is the problem though seeing as it is and independant map, just giving you all the info I have though. :)

Ahhh.... "WH-World-140.bix" is a BIX not BIQ. It's a map for Warhammer Mod 1.1 for Play The World. It's over a year old and won't work with the 2.0 version.

Oh, ok, thanks alot, I got that one from one of the first pages. I feel so silly now. :mischief: Once again, great mod. :goodjob: :thanx:

Thanks DemonMaster, I wouldn't dig that myself... I will make that map/scen. compilation some day, I promise ;)
