Warhammer Fantasy Mod 2.0

Hi, I downloaded and am playing v 2.02 on random map... very very nice indeed :)
I would work a bit more on terrain graphics though, there are better around.

Example?
I've choosen ultra-green Sn00py terrain because it fits bets the Warhammer world.

I read in the readme.html that there should be also other .biq files with a semi-random map and a real map... but they were not included in the installation and I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any help please ?

Some player-made maps can be found in the last 20 pages of this thread... apart from that, the "promised" maps/scenarios aren't done yet. I'm working on them now.

Just bought Civ 3 Complete when it came out.

Cant seem to intall this mod.

Installer seems to work just fine, starts of a little slow, which is no biggie, picks up steam after about 20-30 seconds and then quits, stating something or other about a certain unit art file. Happens every time at about 17-18% completion, stating the same unit file. Made note of it but my crusty old memory has failed me once again. It does state that the instal did not finish properly and that i would have to rerun the utility to finish the instal. Well that didnt work!

Civ 3 Complete comes bundled with allreleases as well as alot of mod's, maps, and scn's.

Is this package fully patched? All titles? No patching required?

Could not find any info about this anywhere from this site to Atari's site.

I am assuming that the game is patched to the most current form since it just came out...

Could i have possibly had a bad download? Redownloading now so hopefully i can answer/resolve my own question/problem.

Couldnt find any relevant info inregards to a similiar problem, or anything about civ 3 complete's compatability.

DYP mod came with the game and works fine. Down loaded the Rise and Rule Mod for DYP and that seems to work just fine as well.

What gives fellas? Thanks in advance. Really looking forward to it! :crazyeye:

***EDIT***

Just found the post's with the Non Standard Civ release issues. Dont know if this has been adressed yet or if its my DL that was corrupted since it wouldnt finish installing. Redownloaded and am about to give it another go.

If it doesnt work what information would you need from me in order to fix this problem? Folder layouts and corresponding files for each? Would be willing to help in any way possible.

CIV3Complete has only been aout a few weeks so not shure if you have had anyone complaining about installing you mod.

Thanks again!...

Personally I don't like much the (original Civ3) plains and desert colors, too bright, and the swamps one you put. I prefer the ones found for example in TAM.

Aside from these personal preferences I want to congratulate you once again on the great job you did with this mod... couldn't find a single flaw :D

Oh one last question... the first tech research for a human player in multiplayer will always take 50/40 turns (depending on the tech) no matter how much money you put into science (eg: 1 gold or 8 gold is the same). Is this coded or an error ?

What version of C3C do you have ? I think it must be patched to 1.22.
Take a better note of the error ! :P

Man, now i know how embryodead feels. ;)

As i stated before i have CIV 3 COMPLETE. It comes with civ 3, PTW, Conquest's, and a most of the quality mods that have been made in the community in the last few years. Its been out since mid August, which leads me to believe that it all came patched up to date, out of the box, which most releases are, industry standard inregards to most respectable software dev's.

@embryodead

I installed the RAR mod(Rise and Rule, DYP). It installed via and exe.installer as does your mod. It found all of its target folders np and the mod works silky smooth...

My error message...

"WH2\art\slann\slannvictory.flc" Then it gave me a code. Ill check it out again but thats the file name it gave me for shure as i wrote it down verbatim. Not shure what the error code was tho, ill get that when i recheck it IAM.

My set up folder wise is as follows...

+ Civ III complete
+ art
+ Civ3PTW
+ Conquest's
- art
- conquests
- netart
- redist
- saves
- scenarios
- sound
- text
+ Redist
scenarios
+sounds
text

I have a feeling i might have to dig around some of the folders for you which would be fine with me :)

Hope im not doing anything stupid as im dead tired spending the whole night playing Civ III then thinking on a whim i would try out this uber mod, "real quick like!", right before i went to bed. Well here it is 7:40 am and i have to be at work in an hour! Sweet! Mod looks so smooth tho, been a fan of WH since i was a kid so, I MUST HAVE!!!.

Thanks again...

Different error message this time in regards to the file...

WH2\art\units\blackpear\blackpeardeath.flc This file contains invalid data.

(error 21fc)

Well thats as official as it gets. Always at about 17-18% on the progress bar.

Should i be installing it straight to the Conquest scenario folder where the DYP/RaR mod is located? Doesnt make sense since i installed the RaR/DYP mod the same way, default into the Conquest's folder, then the installer did the rest.

Just find it strange that it would stop in mid install... Is it looking for some of the moddir files to replace or referance to?

Wierd...

hmmm... I think it should atleast be blackpearl/blackpearldeath.flc

And that "this file contains invalid data" would indicate, that there's something wrong with the downloaded zip/exe. :(

Yeah thats kinda what i thought but i downloaded it twice.

I am going to delete any history related crap in IE then redownload. Temporary internet files/downloads could be giving me the same corrupted file.

Well trying that next i guess!

***EDIT***

No luck. Cleared my Temp folders and anything even remotley related to the previous download. Deleted the WH2 folder out of the ConQuest folder that was partially installed. Funny thing is that alot of the unit art was there. Folder properties only stated about 78 megs worth so i know i was well short of completing the entire install.

RAR is a great mod but i would really love to get my hands on this sucker soon for obvious reasons. Hope the new Civ3 Complete release doesnt make this an impossibility

Time for to go to work.(And sleep in my office  )

Your Conquests folder should be named Conquests and not Conquest's.. but I think it's like that... I don't know what version of Conquests Civ Complete came out with... the fact that it's out from August doesn't imply it's all patched... check that your version is 1.22 by launching Conquests and checking the lower left corner of your monitor in the multiplayer screen.

Anyways the problem really seem to be corruption of downloaded files. This is often caused by download accelerators; if you use them, disable them... otherwise I have no clue other than they uploaded another version 2 days ago and it's corrupted... because I downloaded it 3 days ago and my installation worked perfectly.

Nope no download managers. Downloaded the whole thing three times. Have a T-1 so it take about 3-5 min tops.

Anytime a game is RERELEASED, it is always patched to its most current incarnation, at the point of rerelease. Companies that dont do so, dont stick around too long. Specially with a compilation such as this. Imagine having to install civ3, patch it, install the next xpac, patch it, install the next one, patch it, blah, blah, blah.

After dowloading a third time and trying to reinstall this time it pooped out right off the bat 2% on the progress bar. Wierd crud.

Inregards to the Conquests folder, I bet that was a typo on my part as the RAR mod i installed yesterday found all of its target folders, sound, art, and the like.

Thanks for the help so far thou fellas...

o_O
a new expansion is different from a compilation of expansions.

aside from this... making assumptions is the worst way to troubleshoot problems.

First off CIV 3 Complete is not and expansion. Its a COMPILATION of all CIVIII related titles, and all relevant mods/scn's.

Your the one that is assuming something here. My statement has a point of reference...

My statement comes from being in the software buissness for over 15 years. I am not asking for a debate inregards to Logical buisness practices, more so inregards to help with my problem. Lastly call customer support for confiramation inregards to CIV 3 Complete patch status upon release.

My initial patch question/statement was more of a futile attempt at finding a resolution to my problem, similiar to looking in the fridge for your lost car keys even though you know that they shure as hell arent in there, but you have looked everywhere else.

Also as a last line of rationale and logic for you. How could the game not be patched when it is released with all the popular mods that require you to have to most recent patch in order to paly them? Heck i have installed Mods that didnt come with the game and they all work just fine, which leads me back to the topic a hand. The War Hammer Mod.

Lastly i suggest talking to a programmer/developer who can explain to you the intracacies of not patching a Compilation release such as Civ 3. There is a reason that it is an industry standard, especailly if you dont have an Autoupdate system in place. Making things hard on the consumer is not the best way to sell a product. Its fargin common sense dude. To not do so would be grossly inneficient.

@EMBRYODEAD

Since i have installed other mods to test out Civ 3 Complete, and they have worked just fine. Other mods with installers went without a hitch. I am contemplating doing a fresh install and giving it another go to see if that can remedy my prob. The only thing i can think of is that when i initially went to try out some of the Mods the game came stock with, DYP finally caught my attention and i noticed that the readme stated that most of the extra graphics were missing.

I went to the DYP site and downloaded a graphics patch and installed it thinking that it would add the missing units. Wrong. Wrong patch altogether. It was the patch for the missing animation for some Pacific Theater campaign. Doh. Could that have caused some problems? Again i am strecthing here as i think it should only have patched the moddir files and not the vanilla civ files. Am i wrong? Not too familiar with the modding setup or folder layouts and references. Your the expert on that so...

Thanks again, any help is appreciated.

@iBaLkiD

Ok. If I got it right, it is the installer that reports the error, so you essentially cannot install the mod? Civ3 install/Conquests/patches etc. have nothing to do in this case, obviously. Normally I'd say it's certain that the download is corrupt, but if you tried several times and moreover, you get *different* errors when trying to install, it can be your system. Installing tons of stuff on my comp I had similiar experiences with some software installers that were 100% working elsewhere but were giving various "corrupt files" errors on my comp. After using scandisk and defrag, disabling all kinds of background programs esp. anti-virus scanners and such, I was able to install. Can't really promise anything though.

The installer I used is different from others like RaR/DyP since it's supposedly "pro" it's not just self-extracting archive, but it automatically finds the correct installation path from the registry, has patching abilities etc. Sorry to hear it's causing you problems, though you're the first person with this kind of problem.

If the file would be in fact corrupt and you keep getting that from 3ddownloads (though I downloaded it yesterday and it installed ok), you can also try the other download link given (CDGroup).

Yeah i did download it from CDGroup. I really think that i can get it up and runnin with a little twiddlin. Ill check back when I do or dont get it up and runnin.

Thanks again.

@ Embryodead,

The final "era" looks a little plain. I wonder if you can add more units/wonders/techs into it.

Other than that, your work is amazing!

The final era is actually the third era, the fourth era is only for those civs that have gunpowder weapons, mainly the dwarves and the empire (reikland).

Yes i agree more things in the Fourth Era would be nice. There should also be an artifact placed tehre to extend game time.

Who is to say that there is no future in WH. I'd say WH 40000 disproves that. And Blood Bowl is set in a fantasy 20th century, (yes I know it doesn't say it anywhere but considering comentators and stuff like locker-rooms and so forth).

But then again we come to a new discussion, where does WH go from the stuff already in the fourth era.

It does not go anywhere, the magic in the world means that the timeline never extends that far.
Or, as it's a FANTASY world.
Which is why D&D game is fantasy, WH is fantasy, loads of stuff has to stay that way.
If you want the game to go into the futeristic then the game would need about 4 more stages, as you'd need to start and go through the whole thing again for a 40k world.
I say keep fantasy as fantasy, & 40k as 40k. But, given the 4th era a purpose for most factions would be nice
