Warhammer Fantasy Mod 2.1

What would that be then? An archer upgrading to an archer? Why would the second be so much better? I'm not ruling it out yet, but I'm not convinced either.

The points I'm trying to make are:

1 - Elven armies are meant to be known for their archers.
2 - Elven archers are meant to be far superior to any other race.
3 - At the moment the game doesn't reflect this. The best elven archers have attack 6, other races' archers go up to attack 9.

I'm suggesting that the Elven archer that exists at the moment should be renamed to something like 'Early Elven Archer', or 'Archaic Archer', or something like that. Then a new unit with stats something like 9-3-2 would be available later, called 'Classical Elven Archer', or 'Elite Archer' ( sorry, I'm not too good with names). Then the old unit would upgrade to this.

Alternatively you could just up the power of the old archer to 9-3-2 and let that represent the early dominance of the Elven peoples. I was just concerned that the 6-2-2 stats don't represent the elven mastery of the bow.

Thanks for considering this Mrtn.

Simple, elegant, not as confusing as what I suggested. I told you I was no good at names :mischief:.

If this gets done (if) then these are the names to use.

BTW, what do you think of the idea, LMR? Any good?

Im not too familiar with WH High Elves. My experience with the Pointy-Ears extends as far as overrunning them in the Mod. Im more an authority on Lizardmen and Skaven

But if the HE are, as you say, renowned for their archers, then i see no reason not to include an upgrade.

the only things i can see wrong with this are:
* if it is unbalancing somehow (but since you said others have advanced archers, i dont see this being much of a problem)
* if there are no graphics for the upgrade. im not a fan of having the same graphics for a unit and its upgrade. perhaps aaglo could come to the rescue... :mischief:

I think that the elves are designed a bit to be a "dying race" - that's why they don't have access to many advanced troops. And have you ever tried on making those cheap archers in masse in later stages? I think they're doing quite well... for archers (you see, they move quickly - which is pretty annoying for a regular human infantry).

Unfortunately, the idea of an upgraded version of an elf archer brings into focus the question of why are crossbowmen and 'heavy archers' are so much better than their ancient counterparts, or even why are they available so late?

Well, its not like we have a tremendous amount of information on early warhammer military advancements and so forth...alot of stuff just has to be assumed about when things are developed (even though we do know dwarves had crossbows very early, for instance) and then alot has to be simply fudged for game balance.

I don't agree with any argument that correlates 'warhammer reality' with this mod's reality. Game balance has been the principle focus of the modders for as long as I've been following it. If you want to create a different balance you can create your own mod. So, 'elves had powerful archers in warhammer' is not as effective, in my opinion, as 'elves need a relevant unit later on...why don't we make it archers...' The latter bears some consideration, anyway. Even if elves are a dying race, thats no reason to make them suck militarily. In the mod I've been toying with, trying to balance 'eternal wars' between traditional enemies and so forth, elves and dwarves (at war with Chaos and so forth) are stuck in a typical monarchy, and so war weariness cripples their cities more and more over time.

Dude.. they have infantry (spearman, swordsman, etc.) that has 2MP. If you can`t dominate the world with that, go down a level ;)

:) Wasn't really a problem dominating the world with the pointy ears, I had lots of fun kicking orc ass all over the place. :)

I will continue to be uncomfortable about human archers being 50% better than elf archers. IMO that's a bit like giving the best orc units a fencing sword - Just not right . Though I do accept that the 2MP makes a difference. Perhaps the biggest problem would be getting a unit graphic sorted out, it's not like I have the talent to make one, so I can't complain if it doesn't get done. I'll leave the decision to you guys.

Shadow Warriors, 8 (or 9)/3/2 and treat all terrain as roads?

$"&"$/(!!!!!!!

Those %"$&#%& Khemri deposed of my noble bretonnian leadership, I lost a city with 15 units in it!

Those 15 units were crucial for my advancement on their &"&/!%! capitol, it was just 3 tiles from me!

It had the Pyramid of Eternity, the Black Pyramid of Nagash, the Suiddock, the Great Library and 12 citizens.. 15 units isn`t enough to keep that?

Hi Guys,

great Mod, we`re playing it since 2 to 3 years and its amazing.
But is it possible to play Hotseat Warhammer Session with more than 8 parties? We want to play the Old World Maps with all parties. Is there a technical option to play with more than 8 parties in Multiplayer?
The Old World Map is too Big for Hotseat Sessions(max eight Players)!

Go on, your work is Great.

What I don`t understand is how come mrnt hasn`t changed his custom user title to "hard-coded" after all these years? :crazyeye:

Just had a fun game with the imperials, I noticed that the Amazon lands were rather large.. they weren`t all that powerfull, but they had lots of land.. It happens quite often actually.. Its a bit strange, considered they are an unruly bunch of crazed bikini-babes lost in the jungle..
