Warlords Patch 2.08 Released!

One thing I do like about this new patch is that tanks can now be upgraded to do collateral damage (something I don't think they could do before).

Actually, tanks could do collateral damage in v2.00 also (but only after giving them Barrage promotions). I still agree with your assessment that they rock though :).

Note that the amount of collateral damage done by tanks is far lower than the amount of collateral damage done by artillery.

An unpromoted artillery does an amount of collateral damage based on 100% of its strength value. An artillery promoted with barrage 1 does an amount of collateral damage based on 120% of its strength value.

An unpromoted tank doesn't inflict collateral damage. A tank with barrage 1 does an amount of collateral damage based on 20% of its strength value.

The barrage promotion on tanks and modern armor does become significant when you reach barrage III as then they do an amount of collateral damage based on 100% of their strength value. However, tanks and modern armor with 3 promotions could also be the great city raider III units.

I tend to do my collateral damage in that era with bombers and stealth bombers.

I agree about bombers. In the modern era, it's simply not really practical to slow down your advance to the speed of your artillery units.

Regarding CR or other promotions for your tanks, I tend to have two different types... tanks that become "city busters" and the front line guys for really tough cities. All other tanks I like to promote down the Combat line so that I get to really tasty promotions such as Commando.
Mmmm... commando tanks. :D

After playing with the patch this weekend, I have but one complaint.

The AIs are vassaling to everyone *except* me (on Huge, Marathon, Warlord). I'll crush an AI civ or get ready to take large swaths of land from them when they suddenly vassal to someone else instead of capitulating.

Prior to the patch, I would have 5 vassals now (18 civ map), instead my largest rival is ending up with all of the vassals while I do the heavy lifting.

Same happened to me in my last game.

Civ A (strongest) remained neutral.

Civ B (second strongest eventually took all the weaker civs as vassels) Then attacked me, just as I was getting near to its strenght.

Civ C - I was about equal with when I attacked, but after many many turns when I was about to capture the capitol it did not capitulate - but became a vassel of Civ B, who of course then attacked me.

Civs D and E also decided to be vassels of B, during my war with C.

I of course lost. The level was Prince.

I hate Blake. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Why isnt there a description of all the changes in this patch like with all the other patches? I know this patch is legit because I clicked "Check Version" when I was in the Civ 4 Warlords game and it found this patch, so it must be legit or the Civ 4 Warlords game would not have found it.

There is, you will find it in:

C:\program files\firaxis games\Sid Meirs etc\Warlords

Not in My Documents\Games.

You may need to click on My Computer \Local Disk to find the path.

The file is called Readme.htm

I like bombers too, but keep in mind the disadvantages:

- They can only get each unit down to 1/2 strength, whereas tanks/artillery can collateral-dmg them down much further

- The AI (at least according to the changelog) is going to place even higher priority on Bunkers as of the v2.08 patch

Civ4 Warlords ran fine on my PC before the patch. Now it hardly runs at all. It kinda limps along. :(

Here's something I noticed that wasn't there before: if you gift someone a UU, it retains its unique-ness. Which is nice!

yeah in Hotseat, me and my friend always gift eachother UUs and stuff so we get 2 UUs to take on an enemy with.

I've noticed city placement is much better, and the AI makes more demands. Both good improvements, IMHO.

Also the AI seems to get way ahead in score much quicker, but I haven't noticed these things making the game so much more difficult that I need to go down a level. Essentially good, much needed improvements in gameplay, but nothing groundbreaking. Good work Firaxis!

The only way the AI making more demands could be a good thing is if it made the same demands to other AI's...

Hopefully this is true, but I mention it as positive b/c before it seemed too easy to remain on neutral or good terms with more powerful AI, even on higher levels, when they weren't making frequent demands. Staying higher on the power rating still certainly helps stop these demands, however.

The AI's still pretty dumb, so they need all the help they can get...

I am. Tried downloading from Civfanatics, didn't work... then uninstalled the game, reinstalled, downloaded from Firaxis, patched, same thing:

same here...

Same here. Bought the game today, ran fine before patch. After installing patch, same weird message. Any hints?

Make sure that you are running warlords rather than just civ (it's in a separate folder on the start menu).

Been fooled a couple of time by this.

Thx for the replies. I run XP and inserted the Warlords CD. Just got a reply from the local distributor of the game, stating that it is a known problem and they were working with the game developer to solve it. Meanwhile I got myself an unofficial exe and now it is working properly. Go figure it!

just a quick question if anyone out there can help me, dose anyone know how to uninstall the patch.

I went to uninstall warlords, to do a freash install but it siad it could not uninstall worlords untill i had uninstalled the patch.

Thank-you for any help in this matter

ggganz is right. Unlike Civ3 the patch is not loaded separately. Just uninstall Warlords via Add/Remove programs. If it doesn't something must have got corrupted.
