Warlords Patch 2.08 Released!

There have been lots of problems with the new patch according to the postings here. I have the vanilla version of Warlords. I have no modes or anything like that, can I simply download and install the new patch? Or should I expect problems. I realize that I am the last person in North America with a dial up connection, and it will take a few hours to download the new patch. Is it worth my time? Should I wait for a fix for the problems that I have read about?

Thanks for any advice

There some good things about the patch and some bad. I can win either way but the unpatched warlords seems better and more fun overall.

I don't see any problems that will have Firaxis update anything further....until a few months have gone by and a NEW patch is needed.

BTW, you can use a download manager from my website (link in ViSa thread in my sig) for resume on a dialup connection...it is the identical file downloaded via the in-game update.

I run the patch and it says I don't have a copy of Warlords! WTH!? Of course I do! Anybody else having this problem?

I am. Tried downloading from Civfanatics, didn't work... then uninstalled the game, reinstalled, downloaded from Firaxis, patched, same thing:

Yeah, but my copy is not a D2D copy. I bought Warlords at the store, then patched it via the internet.
same here...

Well lets be fair, you are one person and probably don't play much.

Over on the ladder some major issues already cropping up.

Favorite is the spy that can chase enemy stacks of units out of your cultural zone

Well I read everywhere on this site...so my opinion is more than my own playing, which is only 3-4 games/week. Running a major modpack that adds/updates every single week keeps me busy...but I do get feedback from some of the 1000+ players of the ViSa mod :)

And how long did the major sound bug go before it was patched?

you know the one thing that has suprised me is the fact that warlords didnt have any of the great wars of the modern era, say like WWI, WWII or perhaps the Napoleonic Conquest of Europe.

I remember that awesome Scenario from Civ3 about the Japanese invasion of China circa 1930

Is it just me, or does anyone else see that Stables are still in the buildable list after Rocketry is researched?

In Multiplayer - Hotseat, the second (and subsequent??) player sees the Science tree of the first one to play, instead of their own.

In other forums, people have said you can install the protected patch (the one being dowloaded from civfanatics, for example), and use the unprotected .exe to launch the game.

After playing with the patch this weekend, I have but one complaint.

The AIs are vassaling to everyone *except* me (on Huge, Marathon, Warlord). I'll crush an AI civ or get ready to take large swaths of land from them when they suddenly vassal to someone else instead of capitulating.

Prior to the patch, I would have 5 vassals now (18 civ map), instead my largest rival is ending up with all of the vassals while I do the heavy lifting.

I HATE the Kublai / Qin swap. It makes NO SENSE!!! Qin looks so much more Chineese!

Firaxis just goofed in the original version. Their historical portraits are now accurate.

Maybe, but, when you go to the foreign advisors screen and look at the button which has the new Kublai khans face on it you can still see the Great Wall in the background, even though when you are speaking to him, his background is not the great wall it is the background the old Kublai Khan used to have, the same goes for the New Qui Shi Huan, though when you are speaking to him his background is the same as the old Qui Shi Huans background (the great wall), on his picture on the foreign advisors screen you can still see the old background he had when his sprite was used as Kublai Khan, they have to sort this out in a future patch.

I know why, it is because to do a modern war the Civ team would have to modify the timeline, because, lets take for examply WWII, it lasted seven years, that has to be 7 turns or more, and would be virtually imposible to fit the whole of WWII into seven years. The same goes for most of the other modern wars.

Took their time to fix that. Surely they could've done that in the first vanilla Civ patch. (I'd imagine that fixing it is pretty simple as all it would involve is interchanging some image files)

Why isnt there a description of all the changes in this patch like with all the other patches? I know this patch is legit because I clicked "Check Version" when I was in the Civ 4 Warlords game and it found this patch, so it must be legit or the Civ 4 Warlords game would not have found it.

six years? ;) (I agree though that could still be 7 turns since you get both the start and the end years as turns)

One thing I do like about this new patch is that tanks can now be upgraded to do collateral damage (something I don't think they could do before) and since in my current game I have a barracks in almost every city, vassalage and the Pentagon, my tanks can usually get two collateral damage promotions the moment they have been constructed! Which means that my 12 Strength Cannons don't need to be the ones going up against much stronger enemy units to do collateral damage because now my tanks can do it! :D
