Warlords Patch 2.08 Released!

Great Generals experience threshold scales with the ratio of Great People threshold to unit production rate
(so the threshold is the same at all speeds except Marathon where they require 1.5 time more experience) ---> ???

That means that at different game speed, there is different amount of XP needed to get great general.
Like it already exists for other great people.

Leadership gives double experience points ----> I though they gave double Xp points already?

I think it was +50% before.

Actually, not that's not exactly true.

The ratio of great people threshold to unit production rate at the different speeds is:

Marathon: 300/200=1.5
Epic: 150/150=1
Normal: 100/100=1
Quick: 67/67=1

So at all speeds, the great generals will cost the same as at normal speed except for marathon speed where they cost 50% more. The dependance on this ratio ensures that you'll get approximately the same number of great generals during a marathon game as during a quick game.

In the original warlords game, the great general cost was linked to the great person cost and that resulted in a far too high number of Great General points needed at the slower game speeds.

So i usually play marathon, does that mean ill get more or fewer Generals?

With few wars i can make out about 2 or 3 (usually 1 with Fascism), with many wars i might do some 5 if im lucky.

Does that mean ill make even less or more?

See my post above. In the original Warlords game Great Generals costed 3 times as much as on Normal speed. Now they'll cost 1.5 times as much. You'll get 1 or 2 extra great generals.

It was argued (quite correctly) by some people on this site that it was wrong to link the great general points directly to game speed. They should be linked to the number of units that are produced in a game. This has been corrected with this patch.

The patch on Strategy Informer is the same as the GamersHell one, why do you think SI would have a virused Patch? We host all official patches and Demos, we don't host viruses. :(

While the in-game Build Date is identical, the downloaded EXE files are different so the SI version IS different.

The main difference is the SI version is cracked so no CD is needed but the official in-game version requires the CD still. But thank you for the cracked version so I don't have to swap CD's from my laptop to desktop when testing ViSa on a low end machine :)

They closed the Great Wall -> GE -> Pyramids or Temple strategy....

uhm, so this guy posted a patch from his website (see the "our servers" quote) on the CFC forum that is a "no cd" crack?

Isn't that, like, instant banning for rules violation??

You only need the CD if you got the game in a box.

I downloaded my game and if works without the CD.

The patches should work without the CD also cause thats how the game came to be in the first place.

I think there is a patch for the ones who have the CD and those who dont have the CD like me so i would not call this patch a cheat.

Actaully, it's not "cracked". To make something cracked, you need coder to reverse-engineer protection and remove it.

More likely, it's just an executable with missing CD check, uploaded by error instead the one with CD check.

A crack is when you get rid of an existing copy protection. In this case apparently Take2 or one of their partners accidentally distributed (or put on their ftp) a version to which the protection wasn't even applied yet. So no one cracked anything, it was a simple mistake and I assume the download sites have changed their versions since (it wasn't just Strategy Informer, I've seen it on at least 3 sites) and we can all move along and talk about the content now. :)

Edit: Yeah, well, I was too slow. What player1 fanatic said. :)

Is this for real? Anybody made an in-game updating???

I did. Everything seems OK, though there does not seem to be any Readme file. But they still haven't announced the news at the official Civ IV site.

Yay patch!

Can i play a v1.00 game with the updated program or should i finish that game first?

You can continue with the patch or (if it is a multiplayer game or SG) probably should finish it first.

Leadership used to give 1.5x experience. Which was generally useless since it's rounded down. (e.g. 1 xp gained*1.5 = 1.5 round down = 1)
