Warmongers, which wonders do you typically build?

The effect obsoletes yes, but if you built the monument manually (as opposed to getting it via SH) it will remain and produce ... hm, what? culture? I'm pretty sure the CHA happiness obsoletes at Astro as well ...

And the answer would be that yes, the game keeps track of which Monuments were built manually and which spawned from SH (for example, the SH monuments won't double their culture after 1000 years).

Yeah this is what I was looking for. So if you're playing someone like Zara and shooting for a culture victory, you're probably better off building the Monuments than building SH.

If I'm going for domination I usually build stonehenge. If I'm going for conquest I build the Great Wall. If I am using a lot of amphibious war elephants I draw a Venn diagram.

SoZ is a pretty cheap wonder. I usually just build the SoZ and GLib in the early game. I rarely build SH, I play Noble with a few touches for Prince, so I usually chop a Settler and Chariot Rush the nearst opponent. As for the rest of the game i usually build
Taj-Must have, as stated before, allows my transition into nationhood w/o anarchy and make a beeline to Rifles and Cannons ( Which is where I usually win the game through Conquest or Dom.)
Pentagon-LOVE THIS WONDER!!!!!!!!
and the rest i just capture or win before the techs are even researched.

Ah but if used well the stack of axemen world wonder and its upgrades lets you try out any other wonder you wish!
In the current NCXXIV game, I just used the Mob of Macemen world wonder to gain control of the Great Library, Great Wall, and Great Lighthouse. One of my neighbors had been a little crazy with the wonderspamming, and I was the first civ to Civil Service + Machinery.... :trouble:

Excepting the Oracle and Taj of course, since they don't have a passive benefit other than GPPs =)

This was a balancing feature! It was noticed early on that the Stack of Doom wonders could generate very large numbers of free techs far exceeding anything the Oracle could ever manage! Also production and commerce increases are larger than what a single Golden Age can provide.

I hear that has great synergy with the Collection of Catapults wonder.

Actually, NCXXIV is Wang Kon of Korea, so my Mob of Macemen was accompanied by a Horde of Hwachas. But yes, you're generally correct. Unfortunately, I lacked Ivory, so I wasn't able to supplement with the Jumble of Jumbos.... ;)

It's a jamboree of jumbos.

And a trouncement of trebuchets.

I was waiting for an Attacko line to show up. :)

The problem with the Oracle for a warmonger is that it is 3 techs deep in the religious tech tree, while a warmonger is going to be focusing on stuff like Bronze Working and other worker techs to get the crazy train going. I guess if you start with Mysticism or pop it from a hut, then your chances of getting it are that much better.

But usually, when I start out with a taste for blood, I can't get the necessary techs and Priesthood in time to beat an AI to it. I guess if I turned down the difficulty a level or two, I could...

Weak sauce. Go with the congregation of cannons.

Oh, on a side note HE and IW are technically wonders and they are very good for war ;). West point and pentagon may be useful also.

If we are talking National Wonders, then I usually find a good place for Oxford and Wall Street. :)
