There is probably a topic on this somewhere, but iam lazy ;)
It's getting on my nerves to be forced to save/go to main menu after a while, to get rid of the really bad memory leak. What are you guys doing to counter it, if there is anything?

Alt+Tab sometimes works also.

There's a mod that tries to enhance the coding... CAR mod I think - although that will make compatibility more difficult.

I just reboot...usually not a big deal as about the time I start feeling the lag it's been a pretty good session anyway

BUFFY needs a major overhaul though...there's some performance issues with it no doubt. I have no issues with BUG or BAT.

Thanks ~~
I often get a spike when grouping a big stack of units, or when several things change in the game, can be as fast as after 5 turns that it becomes almost unplayable -.-

I've found that going with the lower graphic settings and turning off most of the sounds, music included, helps a lot.

oh...and get a 64-bit machine

I have a 64-bit machine with 4GB of memory but low graphics with little sound still makes the game run faster and crash less in the late game. (Besides which, I find the music and sound effects annoying.) ;)

I think it(lag) has something to do with the number of types of units too,I remember reading that with Rhys scenario that that was an advantage of plague... as the game progressed all the older units warriors archers etc were removed from the game and the later plagues removed all the middle group of units... and i never had any problems with it, so it sounds feasible

My last game (GEM) I started on the best settings and progressively lowered the specs as the game progressed, till I won it, late game saved when it black screened and reloaded from desktop every 2-3 turns, (Marathon) but that was with about 40 civs active by the end and you could still come across archers and chariots, its not that bad when I play a standard BTS game and just lowering the specs as the game proceeds seems to do it

thats on my laptop too... a good one... but 2 years old

Thanks ~~

Mylene not sure how long your lag is but most of my issues went 3-4 years back when I installed 4gb of ram! Next upgrade is 16-32gb of ram.

How much ram do you have???

It seems that I asked the same question.

The lag is annoying. Also I saw a lot of post about this lag...

Try to change something in "CivilizationIV.ini". Actually this file contains a lot of option, including frames and so on...And it seemed to me that game become faster, however I didn't play much after that.
