We Need an Atheist Symbol!

A blank square. My choice.

i completely agree that we need a symbol for Atheism! i go to a roman catholic school and there is only 1 other atheist in the school, and when i get into religious conversations, i am continuously asked what the symbol for Atheism is and its embarrasing to tell them i don't know. we should have 1 to unify us all to show that we are proud to be Atheists and say 'You see? i am an atheist.'

As a fellow Atheist attending a Roman Catholic school, I have never been confronted by someone asking for a symbol.

Why would atheists need to be unified? Atheism isn't a movement, it's an idea. It's like saying "all people who beleive that their front door is red (if they have a front door that is indeed red) must be unified under the symbol of the red door!!11oneoneeleven." It's just a stupid idea.

The lack of symbol is as poignant as the lack of belief in fantasy god beings.

...

TBH, i think you Curt, are the most suitable candidate...

The irony of chosing one person to lead our religion...

I watched a speech by an atheist recently. He made some good arguments about atheism. For one thing, there should be no word for atheism. There are no words for people who disbelieve astrology, people who disbelieve in karma, or disbelieve in the Tooth Fairy.

So, since there really should be no word for atheism, there clearly should be no symbol for them either. :D

I have a symbol for your "Anti-toothastrokarmaticatheism" movement:

He de-converted on fiftychat a week or two ago.

Goes to show a lot of peoples basis for belief had weak foundations, and weren't actually found within themselves, but due to what others think about them/their ideas. If you have good reason to believe whatever, you shouldn't let the mere opinions of others sway your view.

Heh, but I'm an atheist so maybe I should be saying cheers mate instead! :P

I agree with those who say no symbol is necessary. Even the word "atheist" wouldn't be, except that religion is a far more pervasive part of our society (for good and ill) than, say, belief in the tooth fairy. One's disbelief in God is thus far more relevant than one's disbelief in the tooth fairy.
