i'm sure this bug? appeared in the vanilla version, too. i'm using the Civ Gold mod playing as the Scots and i've destroyed the Finnish in the classical era. into the industrial era suleiman declares war on me, as does his vassal the assyrians (a colony). i notice that helsinki citizens are unhappy and, as expected, it's overcrowded. but they also want to rejoin their homeland  it turns out the city is 68% scottish and 32% assyrian!!! both the ottomans and assyrians are on a different continent with no contact at all. how has this happened?

while the "we yearn..." unhappiness was in Vanilla as well this did not happen in Vanilla since it is a genuine BtS 3.13 bug. Basically when a colony is created after another player has been eliminated the game reincarnates the eliminated Civ as the new colony including the state of diplomacy AND the cultural influence it once had.
Install Bhruic's Unofficial Patch and all is good :)

PS: wrong forum :p

oops. too fast on the mouse. thanks ori, but the colony was a completely new civ. perhaps it tagged the old civs values onto it?
what happens is this:
at the start of the game each civ gets an ID - all cultural influences and diplomacy and probably other stuff as well are tied to the ID. Now this civ is eliminated, but the ID and all that is tied to it remains. Along comes another player and creates a colony. This Colony while having a different Civilization AND leader gets assigned the same ID as the eliminated Civ. This causes the bug you describe: A new civ that never had so much as a glimpse of your continent but your cities (that formerly belonged to the eliminated Civ) now yearn to join their (reincarnated) motherland :crazyeye:
The problem is that this bug was introduced by ways of a bugfix in 3.13 - programmers wanted to ensure that you can have more than 18 Civ throughout a game but not more than 18 civs at the same time, they opted for ID reuse which causes troubles. Apparently it is not too easy to fix and Bhruic fixed it by reverting to pre-3.13 rules namely that you cannot have more than 18 civs throughout a game (i.e. you cannot create colonies if the counter hits 18 civs).
Hope this did not cause more confusion ;)
