I have to go through this everytime I talk to my Chinese coworkers. They interrupt me when I speak. About 90% of them do this. I HATE that. I can't say anything about either because I'll probably offend people. I get interrupted so much it makes my blood boil.

Do NOT tell me this is not part of the Chinese "culture" or mentality, if you want to call it. I've dealt with enough Chinese people at my job and in social circles to realize that it's a cultural thing with Chinese people, and that other groups don't do it anywhere near as much. (I could tell funny anecdotes about this sort of thing which I shall not do today.)

My request to every Chinese person on Earth: Please don't interrupt people when they speak.

I think you're wrong when you're thinking you can't say anything about it because you'll offend people. I see no reason why you can't simply tell them to let you finish, with the appropriate level of politeness.

One of my chinese coworkers rubs my belly. He doesn't do it frequently, just 4 or 5 times so far in the last 5 months. It is... weird. (He is married, so don't think about closets)

Why are you worried about offending people who are busy offending you?

Why does everyone worry about "offending" another person when they are screwing up?

That is rasist do not make such stupid assumptions, I am friends with many chinese people and they are very polite and rarely talk so i dont see how they could be interrupting your conversations.

I'm Chinese and I'm overly passive in RL. I refuse speak up in a conversation until someone is done speaking. And refuse to ask my own questions until someone is done asking questions. And I don't like to start conversations. I jump in. (See how many threads I have started compared to my PC.)

But it just might be my parents fault that I'm like this.

I agree.

You, Phlegmak, are indeed very racists for assuming your words are somehow more important than those of your Chinese coworkers.:p

I'm going to agree, too. Don't you know that all the cool people are Chinese? Everything resembling Western culture is evil, and that includes courtesy. :scan:

There is a difference between screwed up and being flat out rude. You need to learn that difference, you haven't showed it ever.

I think he means that he didn't want to say something that could be choked up to being racist. That's a easy way to lose your job.

Yes, that's it.

Please read the part that starts with "Do NOT". Your experience might be different than mine, but I guarantee that the Chinese people at my office have a definite tendancy to interrupt people. My Chinese exgirlfriend did it too. Early in our relationship, I definitely noticed her constantly interrupting me. I didn't realize why she interrupted me so much until I noticed so many of my Chinese coworkers doing it.

REQUEST DENIED!

Well, obviously don't say something like "You Chinese, you love to interrupt when somebody else is speaking!"

Say something like: "Excuse me, could you please not interrupt me when I'm speaking?"

Said Commie #4522: "Don't generalize about Chinese people! All the Chinese people I know are this way, so all Chinese people are like that!"

And Commie, I thought you were a damn genius with a 4.8 GPA in high school and accepted to all the best colleges...but in all that time, you still haven't learned to spell "racist." Nor have you any inkling of what racism is. The OP is generalizing, yes. And your response is that his generalization is wrong because it conflicts with your generalization. "I don't see how..." this is hilarious; do you know all the same Chinese people as the OP? Are all Chinese the same? If you're going to make posts like this, fine, but don't go around bragging about your supposed intelligence.

Wait are you saying I'm rude?
