Welcome to the new Civ5 forum!

I'm reasonably excited. My question is - Am I going to have to buy a new computer to play CivV? Anybody know what the minimum requirements are?

Have fun discussing the just announced Civ5, everyone! :)

Very soon I will create a forum category for Civ5...

Hey, nice work Thunderfall. :)

I just heard the news Civ5 is coming out, and I couldn't help myself remembering this forum. Wanted to come back and say hi. With a new Civ game in production there's a chance I'll be a reoccurring visitor again.

No matter how much I think I've cut the cord for good - like a drug addict I return to my precious game every time a shiny new game comes out.

I'm impressed that you've manage to keep up your hard work on this site throughout the years. :)

I'll say one thing, and I am most likely in the minority. I have not really liked the way Civ IV went with its desire to offer all the over sized graphics stuff, such as the battle scenes. I much prefered the Civ III approach. Keep things small, and not eat up a good deal of memory capability.

Another thing I thought was childish was the ships moving around, and turning corners like some race car, and then suddenly halting with themselves listing over to a side. It was just childish IMO.

I pretty much stuck with Civ III because I could do more with the Civ Edit than I could do with Civ IV. As the game progressed, the more information accumulated, the more it bogged down the computer. In other words, I think the game would be better if all that 'cutsie' graphics stuff was just eliminated, or we were given the opportunity to turn it off.

I can only hope the Civ IV crew decide to stick with great basics, and only add the Cutsie stuff if it is great, or give us the ability to watch it once, and not have to see it again. The more that stuff clutters up things, the more resources it hogs.

I'll get off my soap box and go back to my Civ III again. Incidentally, I still have my original, buggy, copy, and my Civilization Complete, which I rarely use. The fancy stuff will only impress for just so long before becoming old hat.

Also, I can only hope we are give more ability to modify things, as I am more into the exploration part, than to the 'head banging' stuff. But that's just my way of going about things, I guess.

I thought that Civ4 was a big improvement over Civ3 in the looks department, but I was annoyed that I couldn't play it (not even the demo) until I bought a new pc, so I agree that an option to minimise graphics would be neat. Civ5 does look lovely, but i'll only play it if it plays as well (or better than) Civ4 - the fancy graphics are not enough to make up for poor gameplay.

Oh, please - do you really think that any Civ will be more looks than brain?

As for over-graphicizing the game; before I upgraded, I simply turned down and turned off all the options.

I am actually physically excited at the thought of a new, improved Civ. Oh, my poor, soon-to-be-neglected family.

:rotfl: LMFAO! :rotfl:

:goodjob: Welcome to the forum, Knupp. What a way to leave a first post!

Hi everyone.
Sounds a lot like a new era is dawning with the arrival of Civ5. Reminds me a lot of the time, when Civ 4 came out. It felt a bit like betraying my beloved Civ3 when I first uploaded the new game. I was very sceptical and critical and had lots of trouble with all the new features, thought they were unnecessary. Months later, after countless games and hours spent in front of the screen, reading all the posts I could get my hands on, I realized that, I would never go back to Civ3, I was a Civ4 fanatic. It taught me a thing or two about human nature: we like to stick with the devils we know, but as we do encounter change, we have the ability to adapt and embrace it. I hope Civ5 can create the same spark I felt for Civ4!!

:) Welcome to CFC, wuzmaster!

:goodjob: And I have to admit it's one hell of a first post!

Hi, folks...

I play Civ in a compulsive way since CivIII. Which I prefer over Civ IV... (heresy, I know!). Many reasons: The game is more complex, and I barely have time to play nowadays. But i like to start games and play for some hours... Then, I quit them. Maybe Civ V gives me again the sense of wonder I had in the first time I played Civ III, that “one more turn” syndrome… :)

Btw, I just preordered Civ V at Steam AND Games Universe… I like how practical Steam are, but just in case something goes wrong, I like to have the hard copy too. Unfortunately after that, someone told me the boxed version already comes with Steam. What a fool! :shake:

As this thread is mostly dead/quiet now, I suggest to merge the "Welcome New Members" thread into this one. Saves one sticky.
