To all you artists making game art: what 3d program do you use. I'd like to break into making art for the game with Blender, but for statistical purposes, want to know what others use.

My options in the pole may not be the most extensive. Some may not work at all (such as Poser). So fill up the Other selection if you need to.

blender for all the units. (unfortuntely no new animations possible)
combined with nifskope and photoshop 7, very powerful ;)

Maya would be useful too except for its probably around $1900 US.

Google Sketchup. Its free and its GUI is so easy to use, unlike all the commercial ones I've ever tried. If you hate blender, check it out.

how do you convert it into nif?

I don't think there is a direct way, but you can convert Sketchup models to .obj and .3dx, and those can be converted to nif.

Not with the free sketchup tho (at least after the demo time run out...)

Seeing as the last thread this was discussed in got deleted, I will just say, props to google for makeing such a cool and easyly extendable program and all those with 500 dollars to spare should donate it to google and get the Sketchup Pro version in return. Google Rules.

I'd have said Maya was useful but I do not know about a converter or import/export plugin which can convert NIF into a usable format. Converting LHs into OBJ would allow it to be worked as long as it was in the wireframe mode but switch to shaded and Maya crashes. Another thing is NIFTools Maya Plugin. Latest version - 0.61. This version cannot read Civ4 models. So there's nothing to be done here.

Talking of converting, I recently found a neat program that works with my computer called AC3D(I'm still on trial time). But I can't seem to get it to convert to nif. Any help, please?
