the Italian [pronounciation], but there are two different variations of E and O (very difficult to hear):

A = father, past
E = cat, clever
I = big, sea
O = hot, was
U = put, spoon

Hi Red Threat, I fear this part of the explanation might confuse the poor English speakers more than helping them.

British pronounce father, past in the same way, but americans do not
Neither British nor Americans pronouce cat, clever in the same way.
big, sea are also pronounced differently.
Same problem again with hot, was
And then again with put, spoon.

Problem originates in the fact that British have 12 pure wowel sounds (and 8 diphthongs), while italian has only 7
I am not sure how many pure sounds Americans have, given that I still have not learnt their heritage phonetic transcription.

I speak English as I am from England, but someone may find my accent funny. People outside England would think that I sound like a pirate, while people in England would think I sound like a farmer.
