currently my favorite race is the cabalim

with the ability to build other races buildings and units, turn them into vampires, it is very interesting, my ultimate goal is one day, with the help of baron dun halfmorn UU, to make were-vampire ghostwalkers

i also like the mechanos, they can make big, and powerful citys, with very interesting units, but i have not played them lately as much.

my friend that i play lan with is starting to really like the archos, but i think its because he had a giant spider swarm at like turn 30...

Scions of Patria: Haunted lands, Agnostic, (with certain leaders), and Fallow. All of which appeal to me. Plus... those headless guys... the ghostwalkers... all very cool visually.

Thematically I like Illians for all that snowy, icy stuff, although being unable to freely chose a religion takes out some appeal. OTOH Svartalfar (with Faeryl's traits) are like built specifically according to my tastes.

I like the Scions too, they were one of my favorites until the D'tesh came along.

Illians can freely choose a religion, if you play as Raitlor. She was added expressly for that reason. ;)

Lanun: Lorewise, they're pirates!! As for gameplay, I like using the water tiles as much as possible and building a large navy. Also having my economy coming heavily from trade is fun (although the last couple patches suck because trade routes don't work ).

Mechanos: Using technology based on magic is always cool :D. The stack of doom that rolls cities (organ guns guarded by handgunners) makes the civ fun, but OP. I had to lower the damage cap on organ guns to make them fun to play.

Dural: I have no idea why I like them, but I do.

Amurites: I like them lorewise, but I hate playing them. I think it's just the waiting till you get mages then auto-win. It is boring and not fun at all.

I've been playing the Illians, Khazad, and Mechanos recently and enjoying each one immensely, although I agree with the charges of the Mechanos being way overpowered.

I really don't have favorite. I just use the Random feature to let the computer select who I will play and I can honestly say who ever I play provides an interesting game for me.

There are two that I will not play though:

Lanun - I play only maps that are mostly land

Orcs - I just can't play a game at peace with the barbs

If you held a gun to my head and said pick one, I would have to choose Elohim. I don't like their reduced Attack strength outside their borders, but it is a lot of fun exploring the map and hitting those unique features that give them bonus traits. Also, they are almost a sure thing Altar Victory and the only civ I have played and won a game at Deity level. :)

You aren't going to tell us what your favourite civ is, Magister? :(

Well, in any case, mine is the Archos! A world spell that summons a hero... how awesome is that?

Bannor, Calabim, Scions, Khazad, Ljosalfar are usually the civs I play as. I probably play with/mod the Bannor most, since I love their lore but I think their game mechanics need some work (or more "oomph", rather).

Basically the only civ I don't enjoy playing with as much is the Dural. Other than that, I have played a billion games with the D'tesh and the Mechanos, probably because they are the unique civs. Tons of fun.

On a side note, I have an idea for a fun bonus for anyone who manages to create a werepyre (as a solute to Underworld). It seems as though creating one would take some serious work. Perhaps an autoaquire promotion gained when both vampirism and lycanthropy are inflicted on a unit, call it "Conflicted". The promotion weakens the unit and carries a decent chance to kill the unit each turn, but if the unit survives, something like 5 turns, the promotion decays to "Werepyre" which gives the unit increased base strength +2/2 or something like that. Technically the unit would be obtainable by anyone as long as the Calabim and the Baron are both in game (or Foxford for that matter)

Malakim, Mazatl, or Illians for me... hoorays for climate-changers! Though, Malakim and Mazatl moreso than Illians. Tend to shy away from evil leaders.

Scions, both groups of Elves, Calabim. Haunted Lands FTW!

I'm obsessed with the Mechanos at the moment. Elves falling in waves to musket volleys and cities being shattered by concentrated cannon fire? Yes please!

I'm also a big fan of the Khazad and the Luchiurp; all those forts and golems and stoic short men thumping elves and vampires in between pub binges...oh my. :)

That being said, I don't think there's any faction I've not enjoyed playing. It's all good.

Hippus all the way, baby. Where else can you get a city that pumps out 20 starting XP units at 1/turn? :>

my favourite combo is hippus/Esus (since its pretty much along the way with their horses)
not to mention it makes a great recon combo, even if you do spot them they'll run away long before piddley little units can get a hold of them
