I wonder why the bannor are so disliked.

I'm playing as them in a game just now, and I quite like them. But when I think about it, most of the things I like are actually due to the order religion.

What do the bannor have? Crusade and Donal Lugh? Is that it ?

I don't think anyone dislikes Bannor really, there's just nothing to like. They're terribly bland.

Seon, illusions are better than regular summons much of the time. Easy food for your assassins:)

Doviello - Although I like warmongering and I really like playing as the Clan (one of my favorites) the Doviello just seem like they're missing something.

Sheaim - Pyre Zombies mainly... and I dislike one-trick ponies. Maybe that's what turns me away from the Doviello as well.

Lanun - I'm not particularly fond of naval warfare in FfH so a civ that is strong there isn't very appealing. I also really dislike the OO artstyle and it's such a natural fit with the Lanun that I feel like I'm gimping myself by not adopting it.

1. Doviello - I agree with WarKirby that both their leaders should have barbarian, and Charadon should have a third trait. I think their theme is good, but the civ lacks fun stuff to play with. Obviously if played right they can be powerful, but then again, you can do an early rush with just about any civ and catch the AI with their pants down. So this civ seems to need more.
2. Grigori - Adventurers never seem all that interesting for me. I think I"d rather have 1 Donal Lugh or Hemah over 3 warriors with a hero tag. Plus I always lose my early adventurers in dumb battles. :(
3. Amurites - I didn't really have a strong choice for #3, I like most of the rest of the civs. Amurites I think I just need to play more. In my few games with them they seemed kinda boring, but I think more time with them could fix them.

Honorable Mention - Bannor - I couldn't pick Bannor for least favorite because I really like their theme. For that reason alone I like playing them. But there isn't really a whole lot that I think is unique or interesting about the civ, mechanics-wise. They could be one of my favorites if they had some more toys to play with. :)

Also, I don't think I've *ever* played the Mercurians, so I can't really say anything about them. But perhaps the fact that I've never played them says something by itself...

I have enjoyed playing all of these civilizations with the exception of the Mercurians. I've tried them a time or two and I have to say they're more of a pain than they're worth for any number of reasons already elaborated on but mostly because you've got an idiot AI as a millstone around your neck who not only mismanages resources and armies but steals your wonders and religious heroes. The amount of careful prepwork and luck required to set up the Mercurians as a viable force is not even close to being worth the headache.

Unless I'm missing something?

whats with the crazy people picking hippus and bannor?

I chose Dovidelo because they suck, Illians because stasis is freaking annoying, and Balseraphs because I needed a third one and they're my least favorite.

Bannor is the base for all the civs. The other civ's UUs and such are all deviations from the Bannor. Therefore, their ununiqueness is what makes them unique.

i chose the Doviello, the Luchiurp and the Amurites.
The Doviello because i'm a builder at heart, and always try to make sure i've got a solid base for my civ before going conquering.
The Luchiurp basically since i like nurturing and building up super units, something which is basically impossible with this civ.
The Amurites simply for the amount of micro that is required to get the most out of this civ. I'm with the group that treats govannon as just another arch-mage, instead of a tutor.

Ljosalfar are always like an annoying plague. I hate treants and the treants mechanic, I dont like the ancient forest graphics, and they just annoy me to no end.

Balseraph's Loki is annoying as hell.

Lanun world spell is simply too powerful, and has ruined games before simply by blowing away nodes I was using to build a tower.. (not to mention outright killing very powerful units) When playign with Lanun micromanagement becomes a whole new nightmare, just trying to prepare for the inevitabel storm.

Clan, mostly because they ruin my games with their early warmongering; I dont like the way the AI play them and I don't like to play them myself; I prefer the Doviello for early warfare.

Infernals/Mercurians, because they are one-trick ponies. You enter the game relatively late and all you gotta do is ditchdigging techwise and steamroll militarily (since I've never actually played Merc, I am just assuming they work kinda like Infernals).

Honorable mentions to Luchuirp (Yay, no xp units!), Khazad, Ljosalfar and perhaps Bannor.

1. Mercurians
2. Balseraphs
3. Decius, whoever he is  (though this is usually Bannor Decius, but still I'd rate him as my third worst "civ")

This result for me is the AI personalities mostly; however I'm still just creeped out by the craziness of the Balseraphs (and hate Loki), and everyone knows the Mercurians are a fanatical pain.

Any Elven civs. No matter who and what kind of Elves I run into; they end up annoying me to no end. And I'm not a big fan of FoL either...

Honorable mention goes as usual to the Mercurians. I've had games where the mere act of summoning Basium led to the doom of the civ that summoned them. The AI really doesn't know how to use the Mercurian Gate, and for me that ruins them a bit. Though I'd maybe have to play a game as Basium to appreciate them.

Fall Further has the Mercurian Gate mechanic sussed out nicely - they summon Basium in the MG city with a settler, Basium, and some cool units, but leave the MG city in the hands of the civ that built it.

i chose the Doviello, the Luchiurp and the Amurites.

You're a player after my own heart. Although I don't mind the Luchuirp so much.
My three would be Doviello, Amurites, and Balseraphs.

In some cases yes, but I use them to kill off weaker units before attacking..

I've never played Sidar, Kurio, Balseraphs, Clan, Hippus or Mercurians, so I don't really have enough experience to back up my thoughts, but I do have some preferences.

I do not like Doviello at all, I really hate early war and in the one game I played as Doviello I screwed that part up and ended up falling apart with no money and no research. My fault, I know, but I am just not good at that playstyle and don't enjoy it. I can see Clan being less painful, though, plus orcs are cool, and anyway I haven't tried them.

Hippus are just horribly boring to me, I utterly do not care about their theme at all and I find that more important to my enjoyment of the game than the civ's actual effectiveness. Hippus are just, bleh.

Balseraphs are evil clowns. They are just way too freakin creepy for me to play. I've tried quite a few times but I never really like the games I start and the whole civ is just not appealing.

Kuriotates also seems pretty bad to me, but I'm scared of their mechanics and I've never actually tried to play as them. Their units actually seem pretty cool, I just am scared of the city cap. I'd like to try them out some time but I haven't really been motivated enough yet to figure out how to run them effectively.

1. Amurites. The great nation of magic users. Except if I want to swarm my enemies with summons I'd rather be Sheaim or Keelyn and for stackbusting there are other options and I only need a few.

2. Doviello. Rush or die.

3. Sidar. Leaving space for barbs, spreading the exp around my army, both run counter to my playstyle.

The Svartalfar, primarily because their subtle dance of backstabbing isn't my thing and I'm no good with recon units.
I've never gotten into the Malakim, no particular reason, just nothing for my play-style tastes and too goody-goody for RPing.
The Luchiurp, because they mostly ignore one of FfH's greatest features, the expanded promo list, and are too dependent on Barnaxus for my tastes.

Lanum - I find them mostly boring to play; the 18th C pirates theme doesn't match too well with FFH2. Perhaps if their ships were more distinctive, with more ship types and ship abilities - then I'd change my mind. Overall, I'd love to see stuff like unique civilization ships that reflect their owner's traits. Say a greenish, sleek Elven corsair or a squat, lumbering Orcish battleship...that sort of thing.

Come to think of it: Put in those unique ship types I mentioned, along with new customized graphics, add spells and spell FX (say instead of cannon broadsides, perhaps some magical shipweapons) and make control of the seas more important, then I'd be all Admiral Nelson enthusiastic.

Kuriotates - FFH2 and Civilization in general revolves around cities and building and producing within them. Limiting production cities just goes against the grain. Further, these dudes seem to usually end up just being crowded into a corner when they survive at all.

Elohim- I've nothing against a good civ. Nothing. I actually like the idea of them and as I often adopt a role-playing state-of-mind, I could see myself playing as the Elohim or helping a needy Elohim civ. What irritates me is they seemto mostly not do well in-game; the Elohim usually end up crushed or impotent. Come on good guys; try harder! (They may be cleaning up below the Immortal/Deity level that I play at, but at the I/D level, I've not seen any "big" Elohim empires.)

1. Grigori
Agnostic. Does not jive with me or with the game's dependence on direct damage.

2. Kuriotates
I like to spread out and claim territory. Mega cities are fun and all, but that's just not my style.

3. Illians
Agnostic. Does not jive with me or with the game's dependence on direct damage. They do get their cool wintry things, but it doesn't quite permeate the Civ enough yet.
