1: Subterranean Homesick Blues: Bob Dylan: the political messages are great, and the video style is understated and powerful at the same time

2: Bitter sweet Symphony: The Verve: I love the swagger thing, and the invulnerability of the lead singer, it's an interesting dynamic having someone just walk down an average street.

3: Radiohead: Just toss up with OK Computer's video but Just has it: it's the one where people ask what someone is doing just lying down in the street, he gets alot of abuse and alot of concern from the people and police, but when he tells them what it is? I believe it's something really silly if you can lip read: but everyone just ends up lying down in the street: the message is probably anti war and passive resistence inspired, but it's just so well done.

4: Thriller: By Michael Jackson: I think his best albums were off the wall and Thriller, later music is sometimes trying to be too political for my liking: but when this came out it created a sensation.

5:Tribute: Tenacious D: This may sound odd, but the whole song is a great tribute to rock music and it just makes me LMAO.

No particular order.

OK so I wanted to do top ten but focus is key apparently :)

What are your favourites and if you can spare the time why?

Metallica's "One" is an awesome video that captures the song.

Linkin Park has one with aliens fighting that I like.

... can't think of any more.

Have you ever seen the film featured in the video, because I'd love to see it? One is superb though :)

@ Chukchi: I did not know that, cool :)

i just dont watch music channels so dont see many videos, they tend to annoy me, though i do like the Sweet Child of Mine video when slash kicks over the amp, maybe thats just cos i love the song though.

"Johhny Got His Gun"

Yeah, I saw it. It's rather chilling. He's near an artillery blast (and not hurt by a landmine, like in the song).

I remember being rather distressed by the movie.

"Sono fuori dal tunnel" by Caparezza

Also the one (I think by The Darkness) where the is an aitplane that lays an egg and a bunch of other weird stuff. Reminded me of the time i tried schrooms in holland.

I also enjoyed Subterranean Homesick Blues by Dylan.

I don't watch music videos that often, but here's my list:

1. Radiohead - Just(Sidhe summed it up pretty well)

2. Sigur Rós - Glosóli - very hard to describe, a group of children gathers in an eerily beautiful Icelandic landscape, one of them are playing a march drum the beat of which constantly gets more insistent, it almost seems as if they're going off to a battle. It ends by all the children throwing themselves off a cliff, and flying away happily. Extremely beautiful.

3. Radiohead - There, There - A man in a dark forest in which some rather odd stuff happens.

4. Sigur Rós - Hoppipolla - Basically old people going on a rampage as if they were young kids, reminds me a little of The Crimson Skies Insurance Company from the introduction to Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. The song itself is amongst the most uplifting tracks I've ever heard, and combined with the video it really conveys a sense of simple happiness.

5. Hmm, can't really recall any more for now.

Marilyn Mansons "Dope Show" music video. The cops holding back the crowd...all dressed in pink...hah, classic!

I thuroughly enjoyed Marilyn Manson's "Taintd Love" video.

Great thanks, I think for me distressing is something you watch when your in the mood. Man bites dog, The Passion Of Christ(who could be anything but distressed by that particular political murder) The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse now(man some seriously distressing Vietnam films) to name but a few. I Spit on Your Grave, Taxi Driver, A Clock Work Orange, not because of the films message, but because it got banned? Distressed me that such a message that was an inditement of the behaviour was so offensive they had to repress it. I'ts like banning Animal Farm, any way way OT.

I thoroughly enjoy all his videos the guy is a great antihero.

I don't watch music videos much, at all. However, one I saw while channel surfing that was pretty funny was Pink's, "Stupid Girls."

@Sidhe

are you speaking of music videos. Or have I missed something?

Queen's - I Want to Break Free

Just hilarious, though I hear it lost them a lot of fans.

I don't see many videos so I can't create a top five. Electric Six's Gay Bar was pretty groovy, in terms of style. And there's this great video where a guy is walking through a tunnel and always getting run over by cars. It ends with him stopping one with his hand, and sadly the name of the song fails me...the video was what stuck :P

Just a few quick picks, not a complete list...

- Kate Bush: Wuthering Weights
- Electric Six: Danger High Voltage
- Guns 'n Roses: November Rain

Well, if you're going to credit anyone for having someone just walk down an average street, it should be rights be Massive Attack for the video for "Unfinished Sympathy", which did just that a full seven years before the Verve got into the act.

Plus the song was a whole lot more palatable too.

I haven't watched music videos in ages, but any list missing the Beastie Boys' video for "Sabotage" is definitely, er, missing something.

Backstreet Boys- Larger than Life

Thriller- Michael Jackson

Any Beastie Boys Video

Any Tool Video
