Wow! It's been ages since I've seen those on the road. Do you have any pictures?

I'm driving a Peugeot 206 exactly like this one:

... except mine is entirely black. Brand new too, I just got it last week. The little thing has run scarcely 100 miles according to the odometer.

Regards :).

Update: I am now the proud owner of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4. SO basically, over the course of 7 months, I have upgraded from the 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 that I got new in 99 to a 1999 Chrysler LHS to my current Jeep.

It is simply a joy to drive. The LHS had a smoother ride, of course, but this has its own perks while still being just as loaded in amenities as the LHS was...actually just a smidge more loaded even.

Still driving a Jeep Cherokee and a Smart fortwo.

I didn't say I'd run you over and neither did blackheart. He just asked if according to your own violence-based ethics if you would mind having the same violence applied to your means of transportation.

When it comes to an accident I'll take my SUV with huge bumpers, large crumple-zones and airbags/seat belts to your bike any day.
Drive whatever you like, I really couldn't care less. So this is not about that :)

Do you think the sense of safety can make a driver into a careless driver? Not you specifically, but you know, other SUV drivers. The sense of danger can make someone drive more safely after all.

I drive an Opel Corsa All-Crumplezone by the way, so I tiptoe over the road. I usually only come out at night really.

;)

Oh, by the way, most SUV's are ugly *shivers*

But then again, I think this car is the best looking car ever, so what do I know? :D

Isn't the purpose of SUV's in city environment to tell other people that "I have a tiny sex organ"?

Because cities never suffer snow storms, right? However, not actually living in the city, and only claiming allegience to Kansas City when it comes to sports, I'm not really hip on the current city folks' mentality.

Great little car

No, its "I have more money than sence"

Current Car: 1990 Ford Probe
Last Car: 1991 Chrysler Fifth Avenue

Though in the past I have driven a pathetic Dodge Ram 50, with a little Mitsubishi 4 banger. Going up a local hill I could punch it to the boards and still lose power.
Then I drove the exact opposite: a Ford Lightning. In the span of an on ramp, we went from zero to I believe 145-160. Even accelerating at that speed you can still feel that supercharger kick in.

And at my graduation we were like the mafia or something, I drove the Black Lightning, parents drove the Black Lincoln Town Car, and my grandparents drove the Black Silverado.

Since some guy in a van wrecked my rear end, I've been having trunk leaks, so I'll probably be looking to get rid of my 05 Sentra SER. :(

Was a fun car while it lasted, but the trunk leak has been driving me crazy (3 attempts by the body shop to fix it still hasn't resolved the problem).

I've been looking at :

New:
Civic SI
G6 GTP coupe

Used:
Mustang GT
350Z
G35

Anyone else have any poorly-conceived stereotypes they would like to add to the discussion?

I used to post in the OT frequently and had a good time doing so but don't really have the time anymore to point out all of the flawed arguments and claims that people make that they can't back up. As freedom to chose your own transportation is a favorite topic of mine though I'll jump back into the fray.

Background:

The original thread was originally run in conjunction with this one, titled "How SUVs are the problem", which discussed the morality of gasoline usage, especially using and/or 'wasting' more than 'your share'.

My Escalade.

--------

Lets start first with aaglo's witty claim about a tiny sex organ. I live in Vegas and as part of my work come in contact many celebrities, professional athletes, famous entertainers, and captains of industry. These people are wealthy enough to afford dozens of any type of vehicle they want, but the most common form of personal transportation they choose is large SUV's, particularly upgraded Escalades and Navigators. Do all these people all have "tiny sex organs"? What about all the females that choose SUV's as their transportation? What about all the people that hire limousine services? Limos are by far the largest cars on the road, even bigger than SUVs. Do the people who prefer that form of transportation also suffer from tiny organs?

Why exactly would you state that? Do you really claim a relationship between vehicle size and sexual organ size? If so, could you please share with us why? Be sure to include why women drive SUV's too. Penis envy maybe? Looking forward to hearing your fact-based explanation for your claim.

For the record I'm 6'1" and all my appendages are in proportion. I purchased my SUV long after I already had both a wife and kids. I'd love to hear an explanation of how my organ size factored into my vehicle purchase decision process. It's always good for a laugh when other people tell me how I think.

--------

Next lets take a stab at our dear Abaddon's claim. This one is more subjective as the perceived amount of "sense" is in the eye of the beholder. There are full size SUVs that don't cost much money at all. Chevy Suburbans have been around for many dozens of years, and used ones can be found in every price range. Do these people have more money than sense, or is there any chance they just want a safe and practical vehicle to haul with?

What about small SUVs? Is your claim made more toward vehicle size or toward a certain shape of vehicle external sheet-metal?

Wouldn't the "more money than sense" stereotype apply more to overpriced, yet impractical vehicles like Ferraris and Lamborghinis than to a common and highly practical transportation form like SUVs?

--------

I can't make VRCWAgent's claim to needing my SUV for snow driving. My claim is solely based on safety. Does it make sense to want a safe vehicle? How about a vehicle that is both safe and versatile (and comfortable too!)? Does this sound much like a vehicle for people without sense, or does it describe a vehicle for people with lots of sense?

I sit up high with a commanding view and know that if I do get into an accident I will be much, much more likely to be uninjured. Have you ever seen what happens when a full size vehicle crashes with a tiny little car? I really don't want to die or have my legs amputated or my body crushed in some hideous way all because I wanted to save a few gallons of gas or not contribute to global warming. I always wear my seatbelt so even in a rollover I should walk away. Whenever I ride in a tiny car I always feel exposed and at risk. Death by auto accident is a very popular way to die and I'd prefer not to be such a statistic.

It does sometimes come in handy to have lots of extra space. I have used all the seats a few times and have used all the cargo space before as well. I have moved things that would have been impossible in a tiny little car.

It's a big part of my job as the head of my family to see that they are safe. The best way to do that in this case is to provide the safest form of transportation that I reasonably can. Driving is dangerous business, I suspect you personally know of people badly hurt or killed on the road. Am I wrong to put my family first?
