I really like someone else's idea of an "Eskimo" civ (i.e. Tlingit/Aleuts/Inuit). A very peaceful, seafaring civ which thrives on tundra and ice. It would be a very different game, and they would fit right in.

Out of all the options I most want:
Hittites or Phoenicians

Out of all the options I most expect (assuming Zulu, Portugal, Indonesia, the Sioux and another African Civ will all make it in):
Canada or Australia (I would still class both as dark horses, but they suddenly seem a lot more plausible based on the inclusion of Brazil. As well as the Assyrians I can't see another ancient Civ making it in).

Eh - we're all going to be shocked when we see that the majority of the new civs are modern ones (which goes with the Brave NEW World)?

So we know we have Poland and Assyria and Brazil.

The rest will be Australia, Canada, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico and Indonesia.

Then we'll all be collectively shocked and excited (and many annoyed) at the same time. Then they'll release Zulus as an extremely popular DLC.
:dunno:

For sure we will get at least one Native American Civ (Sioux seem most likely) and one African Civ (almost certainly the Zulu) to fit with the scenarios. That's almost beyond question in my view.

Now that I think about, if I had to choose between them, I think I'd like to see the Ashanti over the Zulu. If we could get the Ashanti, the Zulu, AND Kongo, I'd be thrilled, but no way we'll get 3 African civs, even given the scenario.

They gave us Poland as a pre-industrial civ.

Assyria is decidedly not modern. Not even connected into trade or tourism.

There are lots of possibilities. I'm just saddened that Brazil basically has the ability I suggested for Italy.

I don't think Italy, in any form, has a shot.

While they would make a really cool civilization and even deserve to be in, they unfortunately share a peninsula with the Roman Empire, which will most likely always eclipse them in the series.

To include two civilizations from one tiny peninsula would be too much, especially when there are many other civilizations they can go with.

Doesn't seem like geography is a compelling reason, since in the vast majority of games the real-world location of the civ's won't matter.

And even so, it seems we're able to squeeze Assyria, Babylon, Persia, and Arabia all out of the same area.

However, the biggest strike against Italy is that Brazil is, for some odd reason, the civ that will be associated with great artists/writers/musicians. Not that they don't have their share, but I don't think I'd say they a remarkable share relative to other civ's.

I think Venice has already been shown in one of the sources as remaining a city state.

Hope its belgium with a special ability for open borders with civs.

a country where one of the most important battles of europe where fought battle of waterloo world war 1 and parts of world war 2.

As a dutch person I've never understood why they wanted their independence because I thought it was the high french monarch and church didn't want to learn dutch and didn't want to pay tax. However today they still have the same probelm french and flemish people don't go allong the french don't want to learn dutch and aren't agree with certain rules

But I unerstant now the biggest reason they wanted independence is because its a country which has allways been controlled by a foreign ruler. Either it was Spain(80 years war) , France , Germany(world war) , Netherlands...

I voted Australia because I keep pushing for the big gaps in the map to be filled. Brazil was a nice start now we need southern Africa, Southern Asia and Australia.

Australian Aboriginies would work just as well for filling out that section of the map.
And would be even more dark horse than Australia.

A little difficult as they were never a cohesive civ in the traditional sense and they have Pueblo like issues with the depiction of the dead. Picking a leader and UU or UA's could be problematic. I wouldn't complain if they were selected as they fill a part of the map sadly neglected but the design is inherently tricky. They had a unique culture but not in the sense that Civ uses the word and the concept of cities was alien to them.

Australia makes a tad more sense in the same way Brazil makes sense over any of the Amazon tribes. Great unique and interesting cultures but not really conducive to a world building game like this one.

I'd be happy to see Sth Africa instead of the Zulu but use the Zulu Impi as a UU merely because it fits better with the way that History played out. That said I love me some Zulu in terms of gameplay.

The Moors has always seemed a strange omission to me because they of all African civs had the most effect on Europe when they took most of Spain as well as Sicily. Nth West Africa has little representation in the game (Carthage had some control over parts of that coast).

Indonesia/Majapahit seem a no brainer in a trade expansion.

Argentina doesn't fill up the map as much as Brazil or Australia but again are a pretty significant omission. Had this been developed after the recent Papal vote they may have got that extra push too.

Kongo or Great Zimbabwe have good cases for inclusion especially given the scramble for Africa.

The Timurid fills an empty area in Central Asia.

I voted for another African civ. I'm taking a page out of RFC: DoC, Congo, Moors, Zulu. I wouldn't mind seeing Canada, might be good for a change :P . Hungary would be interesting but the Huns are already in game.

IMHO Vietnam deserves a spot. Very old nation, independent since the 10th century AD but their culture is 1000 years older than that if I am correct.

And they have proven to be great warriors (Dien Bien Phu), and war is a big part of our game.

My two cents.
