I think the best civ overall is Arabia. Gold seems like it'll be much more important this time around, what with buying hexs instead of culturing them, so Arabia might be the best expansionist civ (with perhaps the exception of America). And reasources are much more limited in CivV, so double oil is a mediocre trait by itself, but with more gold it's spectacular.

Dear God, I just hope that the Mohawk isn't some sort of Legion with woodsman. The Iroquois are my fear civ right now anyway.

I didn't say the Iroquois ability was useless, but does it really compare to many others? It's not "stronger in forests", it's "better forest move". And from what I've seen from the various promotions, it's much easier to make a unit *defensibly* strong in forests VS *offensively* in them due to how obscene the +50% defense bonus is.

It all depends on how powerful the flanking bonus is.

I suppose a lot of this comes down to the Mohawk Warrior's traits. If they come with some sort of woodsman-like ability or other forest bonuses, they could be terrifying. Like keshik terrifying.

Wouldn't it be scary if they came with Woodsman II similar to the one in CivIV giving them double movement. A unit that can move what, eight hexes through a forest?

Iroquois shouldnt be that weak. Soon after Civ 5 was announced in an interview they were talking about how they had to nerf the Iroquois UA because it was too strong.

This forum is in English no? :p Strange to be typing in English for paragraphs and randomly see a Latin word, when the English word would suffice.

Given the number of Latin phrases commonly used, I'm surprised anyone's complaining.

Mwah ha ha ha ha! :backstab:

The most powerful civilization will undoubtly be the one whose leader's dialogue is made entirely of quotes from Disturbed's song "Indestructible":

Disturbed - Indestructible lyrics

Imagine Monty greeting you with "Take a last look around while your alive, I'm an indestructible Master of War!". You can't top that!

Arabia's ability seems amazing. That adds up to a large income bonus, and Arabia will probably control the entire world's economy once oil comes around, meaning more money/units/friends.. very versatile and powerful.

Rome, Russia, America, and Japan are all great. England is a bit specific but wonderful in some situations. India, Persia, Songhai, and France are pretty good. Iroquois is a bit underpowered sounding to me.... but:

I am incredibly disappointed by Germany and the Ottomans. Germany is supposed to be an incredible industrial civ, what the hell is this? A chance to get a bit of gold and a unit from each barbarian encampment. It would be different if you could make the encampments into cities or something but unless barbarians are going to be a huge part of the game (which would suck) then Germany is terrible. Plus the units barbs have are likely far behind... And Ottomans are even worse...:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I want mah Germanz! Wah!

The SA does make sense. Long before Germany became an industrial powerhouse, that land was basically a bunch of different tribes, wich is fairly rendered by the SA.

If I want an almost only military ability, I'll take Bushido, or the Russian's better army. The Iroquois pales in comparision.

It really does depend on their Unique Unit, Building, and Promotions Available.

My largest fear is that they'll get this quick movement, and it'll just be nullified because cities get ranged attacks. Whee.

I agree. Not even ranged attacks, but it's just really hard to kick a swordsman out of the woods once they're fortified inside.

I'm hoping the Longhouse gives the +10% combat strength in rough terrain bonus, or something else. The Iroquois's *entire* special ability is a single promotion from Civ4 restricted to woods. It doesn't do much without some sort of way for them to keep their enemy out of the woods.

How powerful is the flanking boni bonuses anyway?

How powerful ARE the flanking bonuses?

No idea. I love how we are discussing the game this much without even a demo available.

Agreed. The game doesn't focus on one particular period of a civ's multi-faceted history. So we have represented the Germanic Invasions (special ability), the First Reich (Landsknecht), the Second Reich (Bismarck), and the Third (Panzer). Nothing after that though :mischief:. It would be rash if, say, the French special ability directly complimented Napoleon and the French Republic eras, seeing as France did have a very successful monarchy in it's day.
