What Class Would Pope Francis Play?

I haven't played D&D in years, but the players I played with were mostly horrible at creating and playing their characters. A system that railroaded guided them into the classic fantasy archetypes was just what they needed.

As for the Pope, I think he'd be a Cleric, yes, but not the armor-wearing, undead-turning type. Partly that's due to his age, but he's always been a scholar, an academic, and a teacher, rather than a healthcare provider, a politician, or a missionary. When he was younger, he was a high school teacher, and he later became "Master of Novices" and a professor of theology. In 3.5ed there was a "Cloistered Cleric" alternative character class, which reduced the character's fighting skills but gave him access to the Knowledge skills normally reserved for Wizards and to the Bard's "Bardic Knowledge" ability. I'm not sure what the equivalent would be in more recent editions of the game.

I dunno. Guy's standing on one of the largest libraries in the world. The Vatican Library holds enough scrolls with enough plot to make National Treasure 4,5,6 and 7 and give Nic Cage enough cash to buy a gold-plated yacht that uses dead orphans as fuel.

He's a Jesuit. that's Catholic for nerd.

Jesuits are Monks, mate. D'ya think that some nerds could beat the mighty Protestant Work Ethic?

You cannot beat that which does not exist.

Necromancer. He'd want to bring Jesus back from the dead.

So Protestant are elves?

No, but the only one graced by god

The pope spews the talk of the devil

Meh. Elves is close enough.

Yes, Protestant being elves fits in nicely enough, as they're racists and pretty unlikeable most of the time.

This makes me wonder if Orthodoxy would be half-elves. Or something. Hopefully not Drows.

You're just jealous because you won't be admitted into the kingdom of heaven

No, I think that would be more like Anglican = Half-Elves.
And Puritans = Drows.

Unitarians must be wood elves then.

Or maybe gnomes.

It ent.

What's a unitarian?

Broadly speaking Unitarians are (nominally) Christians who reject the Trinity in favor of a unitarian God. Over the years the faith has adapted Enlightenment concepts of universalism and deism to form more of a broad-ranging spiritual faith as opposed to a strictly doctrinal Christianity.
