Vanilla intro was the best by far. invoked feelings and had an actual story to it (the father passing his legacy to his son) rather than a bunch of random stuff happening with a voice over.
Didn't care much for the GaK intro, this one is better but still far behind vanilla.
IV had Baba Yetu, V had vanilla intro imo. GaK seemed like a bunch of semi-related events strung together and in BNW the voiceover drones on and on in the background, eventually I just ended up tuning it out.
Spoke to the timeperiod the expax is focused on, did a good job conveying the theme. Watched it once, won't ever again but I think it was fine for what it needed to be.
The title theme is a little uncomfortable and weird. I liked the G&K theme better, but I liked the vanilla theme better than that so yeah. I wish we had the option we got in BtS where we could change the title theme. I always changed it to the vanilla title screen.
1) It focuses on the way civilizations impact every day life (many non-war sketches)
2) It's preachy, which is thematic for some civs. I don't want to be preached at myself, but hearing a preachy narrator in a game talking about the advance of mankind is immersive.
3) It's completely different from the last two, and like variety in general.
I also like the new menu title music but agree that dynamically, it doesn't fit where it's being used (it's too shrill). I almost feel like they liked the song but didn't want to use it as a civ's theme because they feared it would be too grating to hear constantly, so they moved it to the menus hehe. Still, a really good song.
I thought that it was just me but I guess I'm not really alone thinking that while the visuals are excellent the script is really boring an uninspiring.
The opening cinematic is fine. I will end up skipping it after the first few weeks. However, I don't like the menu background much, all the coal smoke polluting the atmosphere. They should let us change it to one of the static screens that show on the LOADING part, like the UN assembly.
I hated the vanilla intro, mostly because I couldn't keep it from playing. I only watched the second one maybe twice. I have only seen this one once. It's my favorite. Familiarity definitely breeds contempt with cinematics.
