What do you name your religion?

Given that we have the ability to name our religions whatever we like, I'm thinking there must be some creative genius names being used by players. I'm curious as to what people are using.

My use of Zombieism is starting to get stale, so I'm looking for some creative influence to change it up a bit.

I try to go for a historically-appropriate religion where possible. I only ever use the custom ones if I miss out on the historical religion best suited to that Civ (if it's in the game). When I end up having to take a custom religion, I try to give it a punny name, if one occurs to me.

My last Freleanor game (lots of desert) was Desert Folkloire. And for Incas once I had Llamageddon.

(I'm easily amused ;))

I usually make up very lazy and ahistorical religions.

My most common religion is either "Birdism" with the peacock icon, or "Two Fish" with the two fish/pisces icon.
My cheekiest religion is "Cancer" with the crab icon.

Back in Civ5 I used to pick Tengriism, and I was mostly drawn to that due to the bird. Sadly I don't think Tengriism is available in Civ6.

Since I'm not at all religious, personally, I will often name my custom religion Rationality.

It's deeply irrational but I get quite angry to get beaten to, say, Islam if I'm playing Arabia, or Orthodoxy as Russia.

Gimme those symbols, AI, I can't be expected to do an Arab RV under the banner of Shintoism.

For the sake of keeping this thread on-topic, I'll overlook -- after pointing out that I disagree and do think it's an immature view -- this childish implication that having a religion equates to being irrational. There was no need at all to phrase your answer in such a way that might be considered insulting to anyone here who is religious. Not that I'm against having a debate about it, but this forum is not the place so I think it best to just avoid these side-swipes.

I obviously choose the only and true religion, the religion that dominates the world up to this day. Even if the world follows trivial and false religion like Prostestantism, Islam, Judaism, Orthodoxism or even Catholiscism, I choose my civilization to follow the beliefs of the one and real religion: the Barbarism.
A popular religion that demand nothing, except doing some wordism and bother all non-native speaker with words that do not exist dictionaryment.

Well, I am quite interested by Bruxism, as they probably grind their teeth when they see their cities convert to my religion while having an alliance with me, and can't do nothing against me.

But I am sure to follow the teachning of the earliest Warrior Monks, fighting to spread the beliefs of Cannibalism to the world. Or Western Cacodoxy.

Depends on
1. Civs being played (And cultural history)
2. Numerical orders of founding (This associated to specific Holy District Buildings associated with a religion. Wat, Cathedral and Meeting Houses are preferred AI regardless of what religion they chose, but they choose real life ones and Custom 'Zodiac Religions' were left to players)

Personal choices.
Catholicism if
1. The AI hasn't picked the religion YET.
2. The Following Civs are being played: Spain, France, Rome, Brazil, Poland
3. Cathedral (or Meeting house) is still available

Protestantism if
1. The AI hasn't picked the religion YET.
2. The Following Civs are being played: America, England, Norway, Germany, Creeks.
3. Meeting House (or Cathedral) is still available

Eastern Orthodoxy if
1. The AI hasn't picked the religion YET.
2. The Following Civs are being played: Greece, Macedonia, Russia, Mongolia (They were a kind of Christian before, actually they were a kinda heretics by major churches standards, eventually they converted to the religions practiced by conquered peoples as well, particularly in the Caucasus and India)
3. Either Cathedral or Synagogue are still available

Anglicanism (Leo zodiac symbol) if
1. England or America
2. AI Already picked Protestantism
3. Holy Site buildings of choice: Pagoda, Meeting House, Cathedral, Synagogue or Dar el Mehr.

Judaism if
1. Catholicism, Protestantism or Eastern Orthodoxy are all taken
2. The Following Civs are being played: America, Spain (See Item 1), Egypt, Scythia, Russia (Again, See Item 1)

Buddhism if
1. The AI hasn't picked the religion YET.
2. The Following Civs are being played: Japan, Khmer, China, (and maybe others)

2. The Following Civs are being played: India, Indonesia, Khmer (They were Hindus before they became Buddhist), and maybe others

I usually pick one that has the opposite color of my civ. For instance picking red Catholicism with red England makes it visually tough to tell if your city has your religion. With the latest patch they did put a white circle around the religion icon, so it's easier to tell now.

If it's a custom religion it's always Atheism.

It depends, if I am being somewhat RP with my game then I use the expanded religion mod and go with Dreamtime (with the relevant icon)

If I am having a bit of fun I usually use Procrastinationism

If I am feeling immature I use AIDS or SARS. 'Wellington wants you to bring AIDS to their city' or 'Kongo is angry you haven't shared AIDS with them' (or whatever the actual message is) makes me giggle more than I probably should as a grown man.

Mooism with the Cows head symbol for obvious reasons

I also use this icon...

Your oversensitive, patronising attitude is much more childish than the utterly non-inflammatory comment of the previous poster, into which you read malice which simply was not there. One cannot help but be reminded of the famous vegan meme:

There is much academic debate about the role of irrationality in religion and religious beliefs, and the related questions are far from settled. While religious belief possibly does not necessitate an irrationality in believers, it certainly plays a part in many modern religions. I refer you to the many papers available through Google Scholar.

Anyway, back on topic, if I use a pre-named religion in Civ, I always go for Zoroastranism, because I like Freddie Mercury. Most of the time though I make my own religion, giving it a humorous (childish?) name. I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses Mooism with the Cow icon :). And in my last game as Maori, I used the fish icon for my Holy Herring.

When I'm playing as the Māori I'll call my religion "Mana Taiao", which basically means "Mana (power, command, prestige) of the Natural World".

Would've made a good name for their civ ability rather than just "Mana". But at least it fits in with Kupe's environmentalist agenda.

any christian church, depending on nation and real life place in the world. sometimes judaism. never any other.
