What do you think about the voice acting in Civ 6?

I enjoy the part that every leader is speaking their language, although it's much less lively in Civ VI where the leader is standing in a black room and reacts with words only to the most important things, compared to Civ V, where you could discuss with Erik XIV Gustavus Adolphus about trade in front of fireplace in his palace, with Attile on his throne with his threasures or with Ramkhamhaeng in his garden.

However, there are still some I like. Catherine de' Medici is good for speaking both Italian and French with Italian accent. Cyrus the Great sounds imposing. Harald Hardrada too. Amanitore has good VA. I also like Gandhi and Frederick Barbarossa. And maybe some more.

About the one I like least, it's Jadwiga. I also don't like Montezuma I much, although I like how broken he sounds in his defeat line.

Why do you dislike Jadwiga's voice actress? Was her acting bad?

It's hard to explain. Her voice sounds unnatural and strange for me for some reason.

But I'm not Polish and I don't speak Polish, despite living close to Czech-Polish borders. However, I can understand some things that Jadwiga says :p

Harald Hardrada too

Can't stand him screaming at me when he declares war at me. He's so friggin loud. Or maybe I just have my game volume turned up too high. He scares me sometimes LOL.

She could be a Polish-American. Some Polish speakers said Casimir's voice actor in Civ5 also had an "American" accent.

If he scares you, he's fearsome, which is good. It means he's not emotionless ;)

You may be right.

I think Polish is a dying language in the USA sadly. Two of my friends/classmates were Polish Americans.

Most impressive to me:
Cyrus - hands down the best.
Harald - his thunderous voice during DoW is startling.
Gitarja - sounds sophisticated to me.
Alexander - without looking at the animation you already recognize it is him.

Least impressive:
Jadwiga - too nasal? ( not familiar with Polish, but I cannot imagine that voice comes from a very kind and pleasing-looking young woman)
Pedro - he sounds boring as if he want to fall asleep during the game.

I miss Pedro II's previous voice actor in Civ5.....

Talking about Polish, you just reminded me one thing. Me and a classmate were sitting in a IT classroom after lunch, waiting for the last lesson (students have free access there if there isn't a lesson). I was reading news and CivFanatics messages I couldn't read at the morning, and... I don't really remember what he was doing. We were also talking about random things, and then I remembered one Polish song my brother once found. The classmate knew the song, and he started singing it after I mentioned it, when the Maths teacher came for water to make herself coffee (she shares cabinet with our teacher of Informatics. The cabinet is connected to the IT classroom, and there is a sink in the classroom). It was hard for me not to burst out laughing after seeing her interested look at the classmate, who kept singing the Polish song

Take it from the brighter side, from what I could hear from the First Look, Genghis Khan has deeper voice than his Civ V counterpart :p
But yeah, I also miss him. Let's hope that if Civ VII will have Brazil in it, Pedro will be portrayed as an elderly man again.

Favorite male: Cyrus (his voice and his design fit each other perfectly, and I also love the santur in his theme)
Favorite female: Gitarja (despite her voice sounding very sweet and nice, her first meeting is like, "those who thought us weak litter the ocean floor," which is utterly badass)

If you could combined the personality of the leaders in VI with the scenery and vocal responses of V you'd have a pretty perfect leader screen

Barbarossa is surely not middle high German? I have both extensive experience with medieval German (history major, specialism: 14-16th century HRE) and modern German (vacation time and Dutch education system has it as a mandatory language, I'm not fluent but I can carry a conversation and read it). Both his pronunciation and his words are decidedly Modern German, not medieval. Overly formal and oldfashioned word choice yes, but not something that really feels old to me.

Love the voice acting itself though, it really fits the caricature.

My overal favorite has to be Harald though, always let his full voiceover play to hear that lovely rolling rrr sound. Also very accurate accent (though I am not in any way An expert on Old Norse) to my ears

I like most of them, but I do have a few complaints:
*Harald's Old Norse is very Icelandic. Delivery is great, though. :p
*Cleo's delivery is good, but her accent is unnatural.
*Gilgamesh's delivery is spot on, but A) he's speaking Akkadian instead of Sumerian and B) he reads logograms literally.
*Barbarossa's delivery feels stilted.
*Cyrus's delivery is also a little stilted, and I just hate his voice. Somehow it doesn't match his model well.
*Victoria's voice is annoying and her delivery bland. To think we could have had Elizabeth actually speaking Elizabethan English this time, and we got stuck with Vicky.
*Tomyris is great when she actually delivers a line, but it seems like she responds to everything with a whiny "hmph." :p

My favorites:
*CdM: I just love her introductory dialogue. "Je suis un grand désir pour découvrir tout vos secrets."
*Jayavarman: I love implosives.
*Montezuma: I'm mostly just grateful he no longer speaks a mix of Nahuatl and Spanish. :p But his delivery is great, too.
*Hojo is great, too.

How are you familiar with a natural Middle Egyptian accent? :p
Why do you hate Cyrus' voice? Is it too deep? What did you think of Darius' voice actor in Civ5?
It's a shame Elizabeth in Civ5 didn't speak in Elizabethan English. Whoever wrote the dialogue should never be hired by Firaxis again....

I don't need to know Middle Egyptian to know that random pauses mid-word do not constitute a natural speech cadence. :p

Hard to describe. It just doesn't fit the model, IMO. I thought Darius' voice in Civ5 was fine, and I rather enjoyed listening to him speak in Aramaic. Cyrus' Old Persian also feels rather stilted and unfluent; it's obvious the voice actor isn't comfortable with the language. (Yes, I'm aware that Old Persian is dead and poorly attested, but you don't need fluency in a language to naturally deliver a line in it--there are plenty of examples in film and television of actors speaking constructed languages with a natural cadence, for instance.)

Which version of Civ was it that she spoke mostly in Shakespeare quotes? Civ4? I loved that. :p
