What do you think is the best civ to play with?

I agree, there is no best civ, and what I reakon is my fav changes as I develop more strategies. I am learning the scientific warmongerer atm, and I quite like the summerians (on diety) as you get the growth rate (ie. good chance of a 4 or 6 turn worker factory) and the cheap libs and free tech. I am also quite into the aztecs. Being able to do the warrour upgrade all the way through the AA, so all your production (sheilds and gold) goes to swordmen.

My favourite civ is definitely Carthage (Seafaring & Industrious), their traits are brilliant for early exploration (and of course more civs discovered means more trading oppurtunities, which means more techs) and getting a production headstart with faster workers, which is useful especially in the first 3 Ages.

I just have to get this off my chest. That anime chick in Tomoyo's avatar is so freaking hot.

I play a different civ everytime.

But I like the Arabs and the Celts, the Byzantines have a cool standard dark red color, too. Too bad that the Arabs are pink by default. :)

:shakehead You do realize that picture of Tomoyo is a little adolescent school girl right?

EDIT: Someone please get the thread back on topic...

You do realize that I'm an adolescent school boy right?

Anyway, back on topic, I already posted my thoughts, but, I prefer different ones for different maps. Carthage and the Byzantines are especially good for archy (really, anyone with seafaring) and persians and ottomans are good on pangaea.

My current favourite is China, perfect when you feel like banging some heads together.
But I also like Persia, Greece and Iroquis.

I like the persians and the celts. I will out expand and can sometimes control the early age with the celts, but with the persians I will dominate the early age as long as I get 6 or so good cities. Who needs Chivalry when the immortal is just as good and costs allot less? Hit you golden age and build a stack of 30 immortals, 10 spearmen, 10 catapults, and go all out and nothing can stop you... My economy and infrastructre goes to hell but with all the free industrious workers and all the raw power I normally catch up with the likes of roman and carthagenian empires... But IMHO the celts can be easier to play...

just my 2 cents

ps.. just have started posting here.. been lurking for a minute love the forum ":)"

I'm pretty flexible. I've had nice early wins with the Germans and Americans. Never got anywhere near the UU, and didn't really need it. (Actually, it was then I knew it was time to move up a notch.) I'm currently playing the Indians and I must say a War Elephant army is a thing of beauty. They're also the first commercial civ I've played and I like it. Now I know why France has always given me so much difficutly in the past. I'm having a hard time finding stuff to spend the money on!

My early faves where Persia and China, and I'm partial to Industrious. I'm only playing on random these days, so we'll se what pops up next.

My current favourite is Korea (sci/com). But moving up the levels, self reseach is becoming less important and I think I want a different trait than Sci. If i no longer have Sci I proberly don't want Com either. Going to have a go as China trying a more violent approach :ar15: .

As I have stated I think vikings are the best. But I also love Greece when I feel like taking the tech tree forward. With greece you can research for your self then buy the rest!!!

I say that America is the best and easiest to play it is Industrous and Expansionist and that combo is great!!!!!!!!

It depends on the level you are playing at. If you play Warlord or Monarch perhaps. But when playing Emperor or above you cannot sustain America is the easiest to play with, because their UU is crap, comes far too late into the game, and triggers a GA when the game is already over or decided. Normally you will have triggered a GA well before you have the F-15 by building some wonder. America has the latest UU out of all civs. You cannot seriously contend it's the easiest civilization to play with. Plus since C3C the Industrious trait has been toned down considerably, so it's not the all-powerful as it was afor.

Same with the English. Their UU cannot be upgraded. Difficult to play with at higher levels.

Plus America's UU is an air unit. And England's is a sea unit.

This game is won mainly and almost exclusively on land mass. So the civ who has a cool and early land UU will take the lead if placed upon skilled hand's, such as: Persians, Iroquois, China, Ottomans etc.

Carthage or Persia
Carthage

  1. Industrious-
  2. overal best trait.
  3. Start with Masonry tech. Crucial to building woders to trigger GA
    Seafaring-
  4. Easier to move around and expand
    Side notes-
  5. Excelent UU, good for early war.
  6. Traits combined allows a good amount of gold, sheilds, and commerce.

    Persia
    Industrious-
  7. overall best trait.
  8. Start with Masonry tech, crucial to building GA springing wonders.
    Scientific-
  9. Free trait
  10. More likely SGL
  11. Start with Bronze wrking. Which can build the Colussus (for GA), and get spearmen/immortals.
    Side notes-
  12. Strong UU. 4 atttack.

    RUnners up, Ottomans
    Germans

I am fairly new to the whole civilizations thing. In the last 2 weeks it entered my life bia a friend who had Civilizations Gold II I have rarely found a more addictive game!! Then I was work and discovered Civ 3 WOW totally blew my mind.

I have to say that I enjoy the Celts the most
