What does the Great Engineer do?

Maybe my search-skills aren't that good, but I can't find what the GE now does.

The Great Scientist has been nerfed to provide a lump sum of science.

I assume the (formerly overpowered) Great Engineer now also provides a lump sum of production, basically the same as the GS (eg. the amount of the last six turns or whatever the amount is)?

Sorry if I looked over it, must be blind if it's been asked befdore.

I can't be certain because I have not received the expansion yet, but from everything I have read, he is the one Great Person who remained unchanged

What about Great Merchants? I don't recall seeing anyone so much as mention them yet.

Pretty sure great engineers have always provided a lump sum of hammers. It's just that the amount they provided was high enough that in the early game it looks like they instabuild things. But try using one on a late wonder in Vanilla and you'll see that they don't, they just provide a lot of hammers at one time but not enough to instantly build, say, CN Tower or whatever late wonders the kids like these days.

Yeah, that's true, the late wonders don't instabuild.

I do hope they've nerfed it somewhat, though ...
The instaHagiaSophia (now instaPisa) is an awful slingshot, exploitatious almost.

Based on what I've seen of the tech tree it does look like you at least won't be able to get ND from the Leaning Tower unless the AI really isn't prioritising ND...

Great Engineers when they are consumed produce a base amount of hammers to the cities production, plus a certain extra amount per population point. Thats why late game wonders are not built instantly, if you burn a GE in a size 5 city on the statue of liberty, vs a size 30 city, it may instabuild in the later, but not the former.

Someone did the exact math somewhere around here, so you could search for it

GEs were pretty much unchanged (apart from losing the ability to start a Golden Age) - they still hurry and build manufactories. GMs likewise were unchanged still having trade missions or building customs houses. GAs lost culture bomb and are the sole ones capable of starting a Golden Age but can still build landmarks. GGs had the culture bomb effect added to the citadel which also allows them to built one hex outside of your territory now (akin to being able to culture bomb could be done). GSs had the Discover ability changed from free tech to a research boost based on your beakers for the past 6 turns but can still build colleges.

GE don't insta build, they just provide enough hammers to build wonders 1 turn from building, or a little more (higher era wonders require more production). GE also plant manufactories as tile improvements, which are great for low production cities.
