hes a fairlyl good actor from what I hear only he cant find work or whatever, I know he was star of at least one show, which makes his sudden dissaperence from the spotlight rather unusual-, and while he recentlly got the main role in a made for TV movie thing, I stil wonder- was he black listed by the man in hollywood, or did he just drop out for a while, or perhaps the ever present struggle with drugs that seems to pervade hollywood...,

anywaym the question was spawend after a friend of mine introduced to, what has to be the best named band EVER, the "Tony Danza tap dance extravaganza"- ahardcore rock band (even though i dont like hard core in the slightest, the band diserves a place in my sig for haveing the best band name in all existence, ever ;))

anyway, there alot of people here, alt of wich are older, and far better versed in the lives of actors and actresses, and perhaps Tony Danza... so if you could help, I'd be much interested, and since this thread is likelyl to be closed since someone is bound to see it as spam 9sure, the thread isant important, but I still want to know what happedn to him...) please PM me :)

"A fairly good actor..." :D

Well, I have to stick up for the guy, since he is from Iowa.

Anyway, he was in a TNT movie with the mom from "Back to the Future" (Lea Thomlin?) around Christmas. That's the most recent I've heard of him.

Why he's relegated to trying to be funny for the ESPY Awards on ESPN. How could you forget?

What happened to Tony Danza?

Ask Cimbri :mischief:

this confirms my suspicions- Cimbri is the heart of all evil.

I think he was badly hurt in an accident that prevented him from
workin' for a few years.

TV writers started naming their NY-Italian characters Joey :D

Danza, a good actor ? He was a semi-professional boxer who caught an acting break playing....a failed professional boxer named Tony. He did this for 5 years.

Next, he stretched his acting abilities portraying a none-too-bright maid named..... Tony on "Who's the Boss?' He got to do this for 7 years.

After failing to score bigtime with his Disney movie hit, Angels in the Outfield, where he played a has been athlete (sound familiar?), he tried the comeback move of executive producing a TV series (Hudson Street) in which he played a cop, whose name is.... Tony. Apparently to much of an actual acting stretch, the series failed.

Not to be kept down, our scrappy ex-boxer pulled himself from the canvas in time to star in another TV series, The Tony Danza Show. By this point we're thinking, "Hey, Tony playing himself ? He can handle that." Alas, the American public couldn't. Cancelled.
That was in '97. In the following 6 years, he was in 2 tv series, 3 tv movies (including that Christmas one) and 2 actual movies including Glam, so momentous it caused one IMDB user to write "Without a doubt, the worst film I have ever seen. Tony Danza - what happened to you sunshine?"

Expect him to stick to bits parts (in which he can be good) and cartoon voices and leave all of the tough roles to Matt LeBlanc.

edit: Xen, thanks for a non-serious OT thread :goodjob:

Is it unusual for a midclass series actor to be not on screen for a while?

btw what happened to Michael Richards and Julia Louis-Dreyfus?(Kramer and Elaine from Seinfeld)

well, first off, thatnk you! right after I made the thread I got the feeling one get when you eat bad fish- it was because I had the feeling the thread would never get a realk answer and here it has- thank you :)

as for the non-seriousness of the thread, no problem, i do my best from time to time to try to guve OT a more fun time to itself instead of beign the handler of constant death and destruction

(my next non-serios thread migght be the revival of the Pie, which I think shoul dbe an annual event, it fun, because everyone likes pie, anbd because of the rampamt cases where people can have fun making fun, and, in the cas eo f last time, perverti g the subgect ;)

oh sinefeld- where art thou?

(that said, fo rthe most part I only reall miss Jerry, Kramer, and Newmen, though i tneeds everybody to pull off the effect I think ;))

You can not simply gloss over his starring role in the made for TV movie The Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon.

Oh, his name also appeared in some of my friend's song lyrics. My friend has a bad habit of thinking he's understanding song lyrics when he's really not. In the case of Elton John's song TIny Dancer, he did not understand "Hold me closer tiny dancer," rather "Hold me closer Tony Danza." I thought that was pretty funny anyway. :)

Kramer and Elaine had their own shows, where they were the stars and failed. Goerge Costanza's show also failed.
Interestingly Newman stayed on TV! Who would have thought that?
