So this is embarrassing.

The other month.. on the back of discussion here.. I placed a small bet on who would win the Brazilian election. I now for the life of me cannot recall which gambling company I used for this.

Any sleuths out there able to help?

Apparently when betting doesn't send an emails.. either upon placing a bet or winning or losing! Very sneaky!

Check your bank statement to see who took the money for the bet?

It was a website I had a small credit from the season before.

Filter your browser search history by date, and look for key words?
Also, I guess you're looking for good reasons, so congratulations!

Well, ridiculously I didn't find the website I made an elections bet.. But I did find another I had won on some football results! 😂

I pretty much take advantage of the sign up bonus each new season and put a small amount in. By the end of the season I've usually lost it all.. For once I finished up!

@Samson I think you posted the odds.. Any idea where I bet on the election?

You know, Expected Value calculations probably change significantly if you use the sign-up bonus and can refrain from adding funds. It might not be the worst idea.

I always quote oddschecker, and it has links to loads of bookies.

You totally can make money on the sign up bonus, they are betting on a few people who try becoming "problem gamblers".

Its all very safe. I enjoy £20ish a year

I'll have to run through your links when I'm sober tomorrow. I'm certain I made a bet on not Bolsonaro.. But where ? 👀

Jesus Mary and Joseph!

Aiken. Dude. I am the proud owner of a Viva Las Vegas hat. I wear it often.

That you do not remember what site you placed an obscure bet on is stunning. How have you let this happen? When you bet, you are entering a holy culture. It’s Vegas. It’s great. It’s all that is best of libertine America. It’s the USA at its best.

Put more respect on your bets in future.

To be clear here, you're referring to the one little enclave in "libertine" America where placing a bet is not illegal?

Yes.

It’s obvious, but I really do like Vegas, culturally. It’s a whole animal. It’s more free of moralism than nearly any other place in the US. Took gambling to get it there, but relative to the Bible thumper parts of the country, Vegas is its own show, and a breath of fresh air.

Edit: there are other places in the us where placing a bet is not prohibited. More by the day. But for culture, and I mean gambling culture, there is no other place in the world quite like Vegas, I wager.

Macau MIGHT be comparable? I’ve never been. In the Western Hemisphere, though, Vegas is THE place for gambling. There is no doubt. It is also the place for a lack of judgement. And UFOs. And so many things.

Eh there's multiple casinos and infinite betting shops, let alone enough websites that I've lost track of it! 😂 Here in the UK at least.

It is melting my brain though. Did I place the bet? Or decide it was ridiculous. I just can't work it out...

You placed it through me. I paid the 100 pounds and you promised to send the payment right away, but never did. You lost the bet, so pay up. Does Apple pay work for you? :D

Never understood gambling. I just don't enjoy it.
Once when I was unemployed and miserable a Chinese friend took me to a casino. He gave me £50 in chips (and lost considerably more than that over the course of the evening himself).
I lost the £50 over the course of the evening. I hated the experience. Spent the whole time thinking of all the useful things I could've used £50 for.

Since then the only gambling I do is office sweepstakes or raffle tickets at fundraising events etc. "Social" gambling but I begrudge even that.

Cities with ubiquitous gambling may be more impressive to people in countries where it's not a crippling social problem, omnipresent societal phenomenon and form of regressive taxation.

Now now Beej, I'll need the receipt for my tax return if that's OK?
