Yeah, that rose threw me for a loop for a while too, just because it was so similar to Moonsinger's at the time.

I know better now!

EDIT: Wait a minute, I'm talking about Dianthus. Who's Dianithus?

A typo. :)

Well it was only 4 days into the new term when you posted, so I think you can be excused! I'm not surprised the ratio is as it is, I actually thought it may be higher, until I started on this site I didn't know of any other female Civ players. Suppose I'd better vote now I've posted!

And speaking of women in the demogames, the Civ2 demogame had Jayne.

You have a much younger net presence than 63. :)
Thank you! I'll take that as a compliment. :)

I used to me a man. Now I'm married.

Like most men, I am male.
 :goodjob:

Me? Male... ;)

EDIT: Hmm, almost as many "others" as "females"... :mischief:

Hmmm....who was it that said that it ran about 9:1? Who was that? Hmm? Tomoyo? Care to answer that? ;)

It runs about 9 men to 1 woman. Look back through some of the other threads, and you should find some of the older results.

That looks about right if you assume that the "others" and "What RLers?" are male. 76 to 8 right now.

I am sure you had some educated advice and were not guessing.

I am male as my name signifies.

I'm new to the boards, but I have played civ since civII. I am a 34 year old female ;-). That should help the ratio a little.

I wish there was a female scientific great leader picture :D

Just thought I'd point out that I am male. ;)

The name "Padma" does not derive from Star Wars "Padme"! My usage of the name traces back to Padma Sambhava, a Buddhist monk from back around 700AD, one of the founders of the "Tantric" tradition. (Actually, my forum persona derives from "Padma the Outbond" - who was named for Padma Sambhava. Those who recognize the "Outbond" reference will understand the "wide old man" statement I was originally trying to make. ;))

@ gmaharriet: I am a grandfather in real life, and am known as "Grandpa" to many of the #civfanatics chat community. :)

I think that's great, and you also have a young net presence. I kinda think that spending time online with younger people keeps a person's mind younger and more open. :)

So what does it do for the young people's minds then? :mischief:

Jk  :)

Most female civers don't visit message boards, develop complex strategies, or worry too much about score. They actually *gasp* play for fun! I know several female civvers in real life but they'd never become so concenred about the game that they go looking for help/challenge/etc on the internet.

That being said they have no problem bragging to me when they beat my high score :D

I am reminded of a baseball cap my daughter bought me a few years ago. The slogan on it was

"Still A Kid At Heart!"

:D

I'm also in the grandparent age bracket, but my 27 year old daughter refuses to get married and have children.

BTW, both my wife and daughter are civ players, they just have no interest in discussing the game online.

Male, 25 years old. How typical.
Females around me prefer to play Counter Strike and action games alike. My girlfriend though has started to play Civ. Is really interesting to see the game through her eyes. She refuses to play for victory. She plays only for developing a happy empire, building wonders, temples, libraries and so on... War for her is just for defense.
I guess Civ4 can be a good test to see innate gender differences about dealing with such a complex task, Stand the test of time!
