What I want to see!

I like civ the way it is, and it is like a glorified board game.

Civ works because it is an automated board game that can, for many players, engage the player's imagination as to what is going on down there. Too much graphics detail will break the spell. So it's not so much what there is to see in the game, but how much there is to imagine.

Sid Meier, to drop the Heavy Name on your feet, said "Gameplay is a Psychological Experience. It's all in your head."

Yeah but what main changes would you like to see in the game which would really make a good difference?

Actually, I already mentioned Sid Meier's GDC keynote in a previous post of mine, and I understand what he is saying, but the game doesn't let you imagine anything.

Here's the thing. I can't imagine what's going on in my civilization if I'm not thinking I'm controlling a civilization. When I play, all I see is virtual counters as the units on a virtual board game as the map. There's nothing to remind me it's a civilization down there. Something like my aforementioned 'Civ View' would inspire you to imagine what's happening in your civilization, because you know there's a civilization beneath you and not a board game.

It's not too much graphics, but showing people happy when the city has a happy majority or celebrating in 'We Love the Despot day' puts the concept in the head there are people in your civilization and it's not just some lights on a screen resembling a board game.

It's like trying to fill in a hole by yourself, you've got nowhere to start. A little bit of animation that reminds you that there are people in your civilization can fill a little bit of that hole, and allow the rest of it for you to imagine!

Also, City View from Civ III was awesome. It was a way that showed you there's a city there and it's not just some image that makes up the city you see in IV.

Too long didn't read?

You can't imagine anything if there's nothing to imagine about. If you've got no sense that it's a civilization beneath you, and not just some board game then you've got nowhere to start from. Little animations of your people doing stuff, peforming actions that link with gameplay aspects can give you a start and reminds you there's a civilization. The rest goes on in your head!

It's these tiny aspects of the game that can aid the bigger aspects so much.

You're right, maybe, suppose you're city is sick, if Civ V can add something so that when you zoom up really close to the city, you can see a bunch of sick people, or something like that, or maybe if you zoom in far enough to a city, it can give the Civ III style city screen, you know, as you said, it's a small idea that can help improve the whole game.

small realistic cool looking units instead of giant civ 4 like freaks

i mean if your gonna have m-units they should be small

If they're small, they'll look more organic, but too small would be hard to play with. Who thinks that they should bring back the single-person unit from Civ III?

Not me. I much prefer looking at something that actually looks like a regimental formation.

Personally, I would like bigger units that make them look like actual regiments, but not that big so that I can't actually see them in a decent amount of detail.

There should really be an option, but isn't there already an option in Civ IV?

Meh. There are games out there that are more like an empire simulator. THe Europa Universalis series comes to mind. I do not see what is essentially wrong with Civ being more like a board game.

marathon mode and we're good.

This may have been mentioned already, but I would like to see an actual future age, with futuristic technology.

The new units in civ v look cool, theres more guys representing formations :) I cant wait.

About the OP, the way i play is I try to get as many bfc in my land as possible, with minimal overlap. At the beginning there may be large empty spaces, because I go for prime spots first. By the time beauracracy(spelling) comes Ive usually filled in the gaps, or my culture has, so i can build farms for irragation if need be. Beyond farms, theres no point in building cottages (you said villages im assuming you are talking about cottages) because you cant work them if they arent in a bfc. If you need a resource that bad just build a settler?

Future tech based on what we can already expect, such as more types of stealth vehicles, faster missiles and jets. Ground based, plane based, and space plane based lasers to shot at Air or space targets.
Several other things I listed in a previous post like this.

I do agree in part with the OP actually. But without any specific ideas, none of it will ever happen. We have to give the developers specifics how we want our civilization to look. The real question you have to ask is how many resources do you devote just for cosmetics that offer no real change to gameplay?

Another limiting factor is computing ability. I think it would be difficult to zoom in any further without bogging down the program. Maybe they could bring back city view. But that was too generic for me. It still didn't look like a real city.

So my idea for devs is something that does show your palace (in later years it would look more like modern capitol buildings), both exterior and interior, and some way to zoom in and look at your cities with cars moving about (you already hear the cars when you zoom in civ4, you just can't see them) and people moving about. That would be sweet.

City View looked really nice when it incorporated the surronding landspace. My main desire is for Civ View to be implemented, it's really all I want if nothing else will be implemented.
