What is a conscript?

1. Warriors from Goody Huts
2. Drafted units, Riflemen,Infantry,Mech Infantry depending on time period.
3. Upgraded conscript units

con·script
n. One compulsorily enrolled for service, especially in the armed forces; a draftee.

Also, cannon fodder, although I did get a conscript warrior from a goody hut, which then promoted to vet, then got upgraded to a swordsman, then promoted to Elite, then spawned a GL. The lad done good.

'conscript' is the worst level of the unit rank system in civ3,
so in general, you wouln't make more of them...
this rank system goes:
consc. > regular (build in cities without barracks) > veteran (w barracks) > elite (may be achieved when vets win a fight)
if a unit of certain rank wins, there's a chance for it to get promoted to the next rank
of course, higher ranks increase possibility of positive combat result

I found conscripts to be pretty useful in surpressing culture flipping in newly captured cities. If you have lots of cities, you can draft like 50 conscripts a turn and use them to prevent flips. :) This is especialy useful when conquering enemies on the same continent as your Civ.

And to draft units, ie turn a citizen into a military unit, you need the nationalism advance.

Yeah, that's an effective way to prevent culture flipping.
But we should mention that drafting affects citizen's moods.
They become unhappy be drafting.

edit:city must have enough population, i think >6 (then 'draft' button shows up next to 'buy' button; when clicking on draft,
conscript appears and population is decreased by 1 per unit).

Draft also makes your citizens upset. The editor says that you can draft Guerillas. Is this true, and if so, can you choose which unit you draft?

con-script (conz-krip-t):1.)Known as a suicidal unit, aka, a kamikazi.

:D

Anyways I dun have PTW I have civ3...not PTW though, I wouldn't know if they changed it so you could choose what to draft, it should be the most upgradable unit though.

IIRC, the city also needs a barracks to draft a citizen.
You don't. Drafting does not require barracks.
