I tried to get into the 100 meters for the track team today, and got a pitiful 14.2 seconds. Sigh, I wonder how bad that really is. C'mon let me have it.

ok. You can't run super fast... so? lol

Isn't the record just under 10 seconds? How could it be a "normal good" time to be able to beat that record by 25%??? (7-9 seconds option)

best thing to do is work on your starts.

Well I'm the only black person who can't. Damn racial stereotypes. I get . .. .. .. . for that every single day.

Well maybe you should try the 100 swim then?

A good hundred meters run time is about 10 seconds.

What do you get speedy gonzalez?

Does it matter how fast I run?

Your question is akin to this conversation:

Jack: Jill, you've gained weight!
Jill: Oh yeah? You're hardly one to be talking!

You have committed Jill's fallacy. Think: why is she wrong? The answer is not "Because she's a woman."

It's because this is a tu quoque! Jack indeed may be so fat that he is confined to a wheelchair; this doesn't preclude the possibility of Jill gaining weight!

In a similar vein, how fast I can run has nothing to do with it (I don't remember from the days when I had PE, which was only last year; oh IB, you have deprived me of easy-A classes!). I know I am about middle-of-the-pack though. Not that it changes anything.

All I'm getting at is that ten seconds is olympic running speed, a feat hardly achievable by middle school boys..... the majority of which are only there to oogle the girls. :crazyeye:

It doesn't preclude ten seconds from being a good time.

Despite running track, I don't really know much about times for sprints.
Assuming by "good" you mean better than average, I would guess 11-12 seconds. (As a long distance runner, I consider competing in anything shorter than the 400 meter to reflect poorly on one's manliness:p.)

For a middle schooler? 11-12 seconds.

How old are you by the way?

Best I got in HS was 11.7, but the fastest kids out there are running in the 10's, even though I was by no means slow I still couldn't compete with the those at the top. It depends what grade you're in, really. So what grade are you in?

Having been pretty good in track in high school myself and paying attention to all the events even if they were not my own (I did not run the 100m; I did run the 4x100 relay and the 110 hurdles, however), I would say a good time for HS is under 11.4 seconds. For adults a good time would be, say, under 10.5? But it's all relative to your competition, I'm defining "good" as what it may take to get to a sectional championship in California. Many places might consider this "great", but sports are competitive here.

Anything under 13 seconds is a very solid time, nonetheless. Most people can't run that fast.
