What Is The Greatest Painting That Has Ever Been Painted?

Dad has this one on his bedroom wall. I love looking at it.

Wow. That is a good picture. And it is very histrically accurate as well. Is it of the U.S army in the Ardennes in winter 1944? Maybe Bastogne?

But that's not a value judgement of course. ;)

Yes, there are jumbled, messy modern paintings out there that do look like kids paintings, but for the one I posted you are sorely mistaken. Look at it and you will see a person walking down stairs, the angles of their arms, legs, head, body frozen in a succession of snapshots, capturing motion in a still frame. It's not random.

Like one of those "Magic Eye" calenders?

Ah...modern art.

Just to show that the majority of great artists work in the funnybook business these days...

More Superman goodness...

Frank Frazetta is one of the best modern artists of the recent era.

Another Frazetta classic - just look at the brooding power of the visuals!

I see it as comic-based modern art - but you may apply whatever tag you wish, my vodka-swigging friend.

But it is fine stuff, from my view.

They looked a bit too boring to me to be comic-based art. Just red x:s on white background, not much action there.

Frazetta is God.

The uploaded links work fine from here.

Perhaps your inferior soviet computer cannot handle graphics.

:D

I can't see them either, Curt. :) But here's a particularly striking one I found...thanks for reminding me of him!

^^^edit: I say, that Viking appears to be a cross dresser.

James Dietz is my favorite artist. His war prints are the best art I've seen.
This man speaks the truth.

When you are at the helm of a ship crewed by dead men and demon-spawn, I figure you can wear whatever you want! :D

@Lenin and Stonesfan:

This is strange, as you can see:
I can spot them easily!

I like Van Gogh a lot. When I was at the Van Gogh museum last year I especially liked this painting:

Really dark colors and a bit of a spooky atmosphere to it. The colors don't really come across in this picture but the real thing just made me shiver. Normally when I go to a museum I will check out a painting for maybe 10-20 seconds but this painting kept my attention for at least 10 minutes, it's so intense, unbelievable...
