What is the prettiest language?

French is rather ugly, and written horribly.

Spanish is a bit better, but I usually hate its cadence. Especially when spoken by the few people I know who actually came from Spain it seems quite monotonous, and it is very tiring to try to listen to it for long.

Portuguese looks like it would be beautiful in writing, but from what little I've heard its pronunciation is not great.

German can be pretty when spoken with the right accent. I can't imagine its written form being aesthetically pleasing though.

Latin is very pretty when spoken properly, but is generally butchered instead.


I don't think I know what Albanian sounds like, but one of the prettiest girls from my high school was from Albania. (She had a huge crush on me, but I rejected her as I was hopelessly in love with someone else at the time.) She didn't really have enough of an accent for me to judge the language based on that, but her voice did sound rather whiny and annoying before I got used to it.

I like the look of Hebrew quite alot.
As far as actually words, I'd say Latin, though. The simplicity of it when written in the Roman alphabet is beautiful.
To hear, though, I have to go with Welsh.

Unless fictional languages count, in which case I have to say Quenya (for those who don't know, it is the High Elven tongue in Tolkien's books) on all counts.

Arabic and Farsi are the prettiest written language I say.
But I love French being spoken. I admit I am a francophile, and when I watch t.v. it's usually a French movie on IFC or Sundance no matter how devoid of any plot, theme or direction it is. Ahhhhhh French just makes everything sound better.
I was so crushed when I found out French wasn't offered on Florida Virtual School because there's no room for it in my regular school schedule. :'(

Shiptar is a slang word, used by the Serbs, Macedonians and other slavs for albanians. Albanian on alb language is called Shqiptar, so "shiptar" derives from that, but it's mainly used as an insult, not just a term of expression
