Favorite unit: Redcoat because it just looks awesome

Most used unit: Cuirassier... i guess i win about 40% of my games with this mounted nightmare :)

I mean, most people say Hagia Sophia and Serfdom are both undesirable because the importance of workers declines so much by that point. The same applies to FW's.

Surely the Hagia Sophia is undesirable not because what it does is not valuable, but because you may not be that far off Steam Power by the time you build it; and Serfdom is rarely used because one of Caste System or Slavery tends to look better.

Of course, if you aren't expanding, workers cease to be much use; but it's nice to be expanding, if only by a successful culture war.

I also completely agree that while the main value of fast workers is in the opening turns, it's in the opening turns that the game can be won or lost. Get ahead at the start and you'll always be ahead.

I like to build HS to boost a GE farm, especially if I'm PHI and have Marble. No other reason.

Another vote for fast worker. I play Asoka in about a third of my games because I like the fast worker UU.

One vote here for Pikeman. Since I am a defense-minded player. I love it when these hot-shot military dudes attack me with mounted units when I have a stack of Pikes waiting for them. The carnage is glorious to watch.

UU: Conquistadors
NU: Cavalry or Mech Infantry.

I would say Tanks upgraded with collateral (especially because I could usually get them before the AI), but that got nerfed in 3.19

Now, I'm not so sure. I might say cannons because those reliably chew up anything in the era if you beeline them. I'd also say cuirs upgraded from Hannibal's Numid Cavs are pretty good at mauling mostly everything :) I just love showing up unannounced with a load of Combat3/Flank2 (or other properly promoted) cuirs, lol. Overkill is so fun!

Yeah, NC are pretty awesome for enabling you to show up to a Renaissance era war with lv 3 units without every having to risk an expensive war to get a couple of GG and either slowed mass Cothon building with Theocracy or nerfed the FIN Bureaucapital with Vassalage.

Edit: hmm, I'm going to have to build a swarm of NC reserves without promoting them until Pinch becomes available. Haven't played Hanni since learning about leaving promos in the bank...

Well really as soon as you get Numids you should at least start planning on whipping out a half dozen and taking down at least one neighbor with them. If you are near a non-PRO AI with no metal or with only one source close to your borders, you should make them dead (Numid's +50% vs melee even makes them decent against spears). For PRO civs at least pillage the crap out of their land and take down border flatland cities until you can field cats+swords to crack the hill cities or those with too much culture D.

With stables you are already talking 3 promos, one victory will often get them to four. A couple of barb kills can sometimes speed things up. After that they become a PITA to kill. Once 'pults come online, prioritze feudalism so you can start taking vassals. After that its mop-up :) Han still holds the top three spots on my scoreboard.

Catapults. As soon as you start those up, sh!t gets real.

The worker, no competition there. :)
I love micromanaging workers and improving tile yields.

Workers are the heart and soul of civ, and they are my favorite unit!
