We're all over the globe and we've all got different schedules. This poll is an attempt to see what chat turn times would be the most popular. It's informal and non-binding, just an attempt to get a feel for what the optimal chat time might be for the maximum attendance.

As the poll can only have 20 options the full clock isn't represented. I arbitrarily eliminated the 2 and 3 AM EST and GMT spots.

Sorry Shaitan. I didn't know you were putting this poll up. I had already included my thoughts about this in my latest Cultural report. Now I don't know how i should vote here...

I have seconded the idea posted in the Cultural Department thread, with a slight addition. This thread would be a more appropriate place to discuss it, however.

Basically, Cyc's idea was to have the turn chats on the weekends, on Saturday and Sunday. This should increase the chances that many of the leaders, deputies and reps would be able to attend.

I added that we might make these turns 15 turns instead of 10, and add a 1 turn session on Wednesday to take actions that would allow us to fully explore another action. Our current situation with wondering if we will be able to use monarchy as a bargaining tool in peace negotiations with more than one civ is a good example.

the problem with having the chats at saturday and sunday will be that we dont have enough time to poll between the chats... so we could also play 30 turns on saturday.

there should be a MINIMUM of 2 days between chats... so how would be friday night, like 22:00 GMT and sunday evening, like 19:00 GMT?

Friday evening or Saturday evening are going to cause a lot of conflicts between peoples regular social lives and their internet social lives. I think for most people, the regular social life wins out 99% of the time. If we were diligent about posting polls soon after a Saturday chat, most citizens should be able to take 10-15 minutes at some point in the next 24 hours to vote. Much of the discussion could have already taken place over the week if we make an effort to plan ahead. The poll threads would simply add any information that was not what we expected.

I think the turn chat times should be geared more towards our government leader's needs than the general public's needs. We need leaders at the turn chats while us citizens can make our wishes known between turn chats.

One problem I foresee in trying to increase the number of turns played per session is that many things will come up where the pressure will be to stop and get citizen's input on a crucial issue before proceeding. Playing only on weekends could end up slowing things even more.

I like the idea of locking the chat turns into specific days, whether it be Saturday-Sunday, or Friday and Sunday, or maybe Wednesday and either Sat or Sunday. But having a specific day of the week makes it easier for everyone, even casual citizens, to know/plan when the chat will be, when to expect summaries, when polls must be done, etc. I know there have been a couple of times where I wasn't sure when discussing things whether the turn was to be played that day, the next day, or had already happened!

Unfortunately for me, weekends are actually worse than weekdays, I am usually out of town on weekends due to military duty. If I plan for it, though, I can usually bring my laptop and connect via (gulp) Dial-up (I am so spoiled with this cable modem).
But I do think having designated days week after week would help make it easier for most people. And if we have all week to prepare for it, I don't see that much problem with playing a lot of turns over a weekend, with a possible mid-week "adjustment" turn.

Are citizens allowed to vote here, or is this only for the cabinet with authority to play?
