If we're talkin' about old testament (or whatever it's called in engrish)
here, I agree with you, completely.

Sadly, fictional president Bartet has probably never read Romans...

Personally I'm an Atheist.

Now I personally feel that Religion brings more bad to this world than good, you only have to look at Ireland and the Middle East to see that!!

Religion truly is a crutch for the weak. It was developed in the begining of time to keep order to form control. Here is a short timeline...

The Begining Of Civilisation: God's were first created to help explain what man couldn't, i.e.Volcanoes,earthquakes,hurricanes, lightning and other natural disasters.

0CE : Religion is strong, everyone is religious to some kind of god or statue. Christ is born this marks the begining of a whole new realm in Religon. By now the death toll because of religion is probably well into the millions, just a guess.

32-34CE : Christ is KILLED by RELIGIOUS leaders.

Middle Ages: Christianty has spread and has been terribly distorted. The Muslims own Jewish and Christian holy land. By now Religion has caused the deaths of millions of people(this i'm sure about).
The crusades are held sparked by the POPE a RELIGIOUS LEADER for CHRISTIANITY. Christianity has a commandment by its God, Thou Shall Not Kill. Christians KILL thousands of Muslims!!

Witch Trials: thousands killed by CHRISTIANs who claim they are acts of evil, many are wrongly accused.

New Ages: WWII-During this war religion did everything. Both sides of the war claimed God was with them, quite surely he couldn't have been, because he has a law which says, "Thou shall Not Kill"!!! 10 Million Jews lose their lives because of their Religion, a terrible tradgedy.
In Ireland Protestants and Catholics fight, so much for "Thou Shall Not Kill".

And Most Recently: MUSLIM extremists cause mass destruction in America, a terrible tradgedy:( Also JEWS and MUSLIMS fight for land in the Middle East, Jewish soldiers, with the law, "Thou Shall Not Kill" shoot down Palestinian boys armed only with stones sand catapults.

Now in this post I'm not trying to tell you not to believe in God but to start thinking about your religion. If you follow it passionately then then follow it correctly don't distort it.

Now a final word on Satanism. It is very misunderstood. But not by Christians or Jews etc... but by its followers. Satanism was originally formed as a group to contradict Christianity but now people see it as Evil and think it is cool. Sad really.

If you find anything here is wrong by all means jus tell me what it is.

Thanks

P.S. I had a visit from a Priest who came to our school during assembly. Now this Priest talked about how God wanted you to be free and reach for you goals, all-good, but then he spoiled it by then preaching to us to believe in God.
Don't you find it hypocritical? Be free but believe in God and only God and obey his rules, very hypocritical!!!

(struggling) Christian.

Slowwhand, just to clairfy, Methodism is a Denomination of Christianity, not a Religion of it's own. Your religion is Christianity (nothing wrong with being proud to be a Methodist, of course ;) ).

Hakan, LOVED the West Wing quote. I must have missed that one somehow. Hilarious, and very to the point! Conversely, quoting a fictional politician to support your views of religion is rather shaky ground, to say the least.

Christianiy has done horrible things in its past, as has every other major religion. Just because people still act like people do does not negate the God they worship. We follow God because we aren't perfect, not because we are (though regrettably many forget that important point-just proving they aren't perfect).

EDIT: forgot to add an important point. I'm a bit saddened that no one has claimed Muslim yet. I would really like to see a Muslim help us all understand what Islam is really about, recognizing that bin Laden represents Islam about as well as the neo-Nazis and Aryan Nations represent true Christianity. I know it would take a lot of courage to step forward at this time, but at least vote and let us know you are out there, please. You don't have to post anything and give yourself away.

KMthePenguin: I don't think it attracts attention really. But it does get awful old trying to have conversations with people on religion... But I do enjoy it. I like to think that they are not so close-minded that at least they are looking at what I am presenting, but that is doubtful. Most likely preparing a rebuttal WHILE I am talking. But then I do the same because if Jesus came down and kicked me in the ass, before falling to my knees asking for forgiveness, I'd have about 1000 questions for him to answer.

Dexter: Satanic Bible IMO is a much better book than the Christian Bible. If anyone here has ever DARED to pick it up let alone read it, it is essentially a giant Golden Rule book. You do bad crap to someone, expect as much if not more right back atcha. To me, this is common sense. But it can be applied to life and make things better. Christian Bible? Aw don't get me started... SOOOOOOO many flaws and ridiculous garbage in there...

Not really directed to Leowind: People (I think/HOPE) know that Bin Ladin is not a good representative for the religion. He is a fanatic/fundamentalist. All religions are essentially the same. "Do the right thing."

I don't really think that is right...Anyone can say that they are an atheist. Its more important to be able to say what your reasons for being an atheist are and whether you could defend your views in an arguement...or at least make some valid points.

Why can't I quote people that doesn't ecists when many people qoute people from the BIBLE that never ever ecisted.

Dell: Ask a Christian to tell you their reasons for being a Christian and to defend their views in an argument. No problem. NOW tell them to use logic and reason.

Well gee, that makes it a little tough eh? I can't use fantastical, mystical, hypothetical ideas? I need to use FACTS? Defending Atheism is simple. Prove me wrong. Prove otherwise. Show me proof using logic and reason. Not some book.

Hmm I meant that you should be able to make points...obviously you cannot make many since your arguement runs allong the lines of "Well prove it..."

Also Magnus seemed to imply that clever people are Atheists but that is not true...

"It takes a strong, independent mind to be an Atheist."

I've met weak-minded atheists and strong-minded religious people. And plenty of vice-versa too, but not necessarily MORE.

In some circles, atheism is actually conformity rather than non. Also in some countries (China, Russia under the Soviets)....

"Strong, independent minds" come in all shapes, and that qualifier is on an entirely different plane than religion, or lack of.

I was raised a Christian (Lutheran), but rebelled against religion in my early teens and became atheist. As I got older, I went into an agnostic phase (sensing that there was a spiritual dimension to life, but not knowing what to do with it quite yet), and now I am a believer in the basic message of ALL religions (kind of like Buddhism, but not quite). I believe there is a God, but that we all got it wrong when we assumed "Religion X" was the ONLY way to spiritual truth--hence all the wars and other crap, that could destroy us all yet if we don't get our acts together.

Anyway, I feel I have as sharp and independent a mind as I'll ever have (certainly moreso than when I was a teenager), yet I am no longer an atheist. Nothing against atheists however, I just have a different view of things....

I am a darwinist.I believe D.n.a is our god.

Just plain and simple ,kinda a bit like an atheist ,but i believe in something ,the awsome power of nature.
So what is for me the meaning of life? Just to reproduce!
Hey ,there are even organism that only reproduce, and then die.

I was once a catholic.I renounced that. The feeling of sin and guilt is to strong in catholicism. You have a lot of catholics that believe because they fear hell ,and thus i call hell the brainwashweapon of catholicism. Some beliefs in catholicism go against or nature.as example: Whey can a man only have one woman? In nature most animals have more than one.

I can make plenty, all I need is one. There is no proof of a GOD. Why believe in something there is no proof of? Be a conformist? No thanks. There may be something, but I highly doubt the GOOD BOOK is it... ;) I think that stands better than any Christian "defense." I pointed out plenty things wrong with the Christian Bible in another thread. What do you want? BTW, I am not an atheist and never claimed to be, so maybe my "defense" of atheism is a little shaky. :) But I think my "attack" on Christianity ain't half bad.

As for clever people being atheists, I agree with Allan. Clever or not, they are everywhere, Christian or Catholic or Atheist or whatever.

Many aetheists and philosophers would disagree with you. They would say that it is logically impossible to prove the non-existence of a god, in the same way as some would contest that it is not possoble to prove the non-existence of anything.

How do I know that you exist Floppa?! I don't know for sure. But the fact that I can communicate with you, ask you questions and get answers, means that it makes more sense for me to use the rule of thumb that you do exist than not. In all ways, through our public and private messages, this "you" - even if it is imaginary - is indistinguishable from a real person. It's not a proof of course, but it works for me, and other people who try to communicate with you may draw their own conclusions.

Same with deities. I can't prove they exist. But because, when I have a two-way communication with a deity going, it's indistinguishable from having a communcation with a real being, I may as well use the same logic and treat them as though they do exist. Like I treat you. Of course others may be more or less successful at similar communication. But it works for me.

(And of course I voted "Other")

You right Stormerne. I think it most likely impossible to prove God exsists OR doesn't...
And Dell, or ANYONE, I hope I don't offend, that is not my goal.

And I guess I didn't mean Atheism per se, but non belief in God. I really ain't atheist!!!

You're wrong Joe. There is NO DOG. (says the dyslexic atheist...)

Following the efforts of lots of foolish people and many websites at the time of the national census, the United Kingdom now has Jedi Knight as a registered faith:
(page 18)
Using the force
I realise that most people here will think that this is a good thing but as far as I'm concerned, if you truly believe you are a Jedi Knight then feel free to practice your religion as it is as valid as any of the others, but this is just a stunt.
