The names may be synonymous, but they are really two totally different cultures (that is Persian culture and the more Islamic Iranian culture).

Saying they are the same is like saying American and English culture are. They are similar in some respects, but in reality, they are totally different.
 
I've met people who self-identify as Persians and they specify that they are not Iranians.

it's more like Roman and Italian, same place, very different times and somewhat different cultures (and they both had empires)

IMO, Persian is the ethnicity while Iranian is citizen of Iran, or something like that

Sounds like a myth. Got anything to corroborate that? Any concrete differences between "Persian" and "Islamic"? Any response to the fact that the Iranians called their state and people a variant of the name Iran before Muhammad had so much as thought about going up Mount Hira?
 
Don't like the government in Iran. A nutty holocaust denying president, the clerics still grasping on the idea that Americans are the great Satan. It's censorship policies and persecution of the Iranians who rather have a moderate president than some nuttjob. Heck Iran in it's censorship policies is an amature in comparison with the Government of the Peoples Republic of China.

I like the pre-revolutionary Iran than the Theocratic post-revolutionary Iran.
