what is your view about iran?

I'm a big fan of Ancient Persia, especially under Cyrus. Things went down hill after his death, but I would probably still have preferred them to their enemies. Alexander "the Great" was a bad man, not worthy of the same appellative as Cyrus. The Achaemenid dynasty and the Zoroastrian religion are particularly interesting.

I'd like to visit Iran someday, mostly to see the archeological sites, but don't know how well I could handle the heat.

I've always gotten along well with all the Iranians I've met. (Well, one half-Iranian half-Ethiopian girl I knew in highschool was rather annoying, but I don't think she has ever been to Iran or really knows anything about that culture. I was going to list 2 more examples, but then I remembered those weren't Iranians but Turks.) My Structural Analysis professor last semester seemed like a nice guy and was quite amusing. He looked more Pakistani than Iranian (I'm guessing he is from an Iranian ethnic minority), but claimed to be Iranian and his website said his degree is from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran. (When I first heard him talk it sounded like I has just met a gay Iranian, but then his girlfriend stopped by.) At the benginning ogf Junior year an Iranian cousin of one of my friends from church came to our bible study a couple times, although from facebook I could see that he is a Sufi Muslim. (She is half-German-American and half-Philippino, he is half-German-American and half Iranian, but looks fully Iranian and was raised in Iran. He got a BS in Electrical Engineering in Iran and is working on a PhD here at Georgia Tech.) I don't think any of the other Iranians I've met were religious.

Everything I've makes me think that the Iranian people are the more civilized and most friendly to the United States than any of their neighbors.

I don't know as much about modern Iranian history. I'm not a fan of Ahmadinezhad at all, but I don't think he is quite as bad as generally portrayed in the American media. The government of the Islamic Republic seems preferable to that of most middle eastern countries. I think that the US should negotiate with Ahmadinezhad (and the Supreme Leader), but should have the negotiations inside a Nazi concentration camp to make the holocaust denial seem silly and encourage him to change that position without us ever technically bringing it up. I don't think Iran should get the nuclear bomb, but would be willing to significantly reduce the US arsenal and pressure Israel to get rid of their nukes as part of deal. I'm not terribly concerned about them having nuclear power plants, but would rather there be oversight as to what happens with the waste. I'd consider suggesting US owned and operated nuclear plants in Iran.

That the US is friendly with Saudi Arabia and hostile towards Iran makes absolutely no sense to me. I'd recommend lifting all embargoes (probably with an exception of military equipment and technologies), and creating a system of punitive tariffs (perhaps involving a constitutional amendment to allow the tax to apply to exports too) based on externalities like pollution, human rights abuses, and market manipulation by cartels. Iran would be taxed heavily, but so would Saudi Arabia, Cuba, and China.

Iran was doing pretty well until Mossadegh was taken out of power and Mohammed Reza Shah replaced him.

See, the thing is, American relations in the Middle East are based entirely on Oil. They have nothing to do with how good or bad a government is, which is why our government likes Saudi Arabia and hates Iran.

Iran has a lot of oil, just like Saudi Arabia.

But which one of them will sell it to us?

But which one of them will sell it to us?
The one that doesn't already have a history of antagonization with the United States because of various things not relating to oil?

I think it is more a matter of which one we'll buy from. I'm pretty sure the embargo is only one way, that the Iranian government doesn't ban trade with the US like the US does with Iran. (They do have rather high protective tariffs though.)

Exactly. We do things to make the Iranians hate us, so they won't sell us Oil, so we hate them more and piss them off more, and the cycle goes on.

Hello Great Cyrus,

As I'm sure you know, there are a lot of Americans and others who hate and distrust Iran due to the history of our two countries since WWII. But there are also a lot of us who don't who can see both sides of what happened. Hopefully, we can help clear away some of the ignorance and suspicion that causes such enmity and distrust by having more Iranians post on forums like this.

Iran has a great and noble history that extends back many millenia. Most of the CFCers who play Civ should have at least a passing knowledge about the original Cyrus the Great and the history of the Persians. It is certainly one of my favorite roles to play in the game.

From what I've seen, Ahmadinezhad seems to really care about the common man in Iran. But some of his rhetoric towards Israel only provides ammunition to those who want to find any excuse to vilify him and your country. I think this is unfortunate because I think it is long overdue for our countries to become friendly again as we were back before the CIA overthrew our government.

I really think Obama can change a lot of that, so I have great hope at present that relations between our two countries can get much stronger in the next few years. Under Bush, I had little or no hope at all. For a while I even thought Iran might very be the next country we invaded, all under a pretext of lies of course.

Now I have a few questions for you. What do you think about the last presidential election? Do you think there was massive voter fraud that could have influenced the outcome? That the wrong man was elected president? Do you think Mousavi was right, or did he try to lead a revolution to overthrow the legitimate goverment by fomenting violence and rebellion?
i answer your all question for several small sentence.
look my friend. our vote was true and mousavi wanted begins a sedition. he was a good president in last but he changed very very much. this is your answer.
my view: his blood is turk. in my view our president should be always persian.

look my dear mossadegh was a great man for us. he recaptured our oil industry.
---------------------------------------
dear MagisterCultuum. your mean for "Ethiopian" is black or Ethiopian city? Ethiopian is an arab city and persian dont have any black. in 300 the movie insult us.

and why in highter version isn't cyrus in the game?

Both Cyrus and Darius are Persian leaders in BTS.

People, Iran somewhat hates the US, because the US tried to topple its democratically elected government to supplant it with the Shah, and that why the hate us, because we attacked them :shake:

Persians should make effort to change current state of country to be more rational. Less homosexuality and holocaust denies and more freedom.
