What language is the opening menu warlords music singing in?

Why did they use the Lord's Prayer in Swahili for Civ IV?
Well, of course they used both because they sound like what they were looking for, regardless of the actual meaning of the song, which most people won't be aware of. I just think it's ironic that an Arabic love song sounds so... martial.

Of course most people probably know about this already, but for those that don't, it's simple to make your own soundtrack by replacing files there.
I replaced it with the OpeningMenu.mp3 from the Viking scenario.

I like it but I don't play Warlords till patch so maybe later I will get sick of it, hopefully when they make new Expansion pack and new Title song.
yes overall I think the Original will last the longest since it's mood is good:)

It is Arabic. I speak the language, it's kinda funny to hear it in Civ4.

Arabic: The New Klingon?

Just kidding. I for one thought it sounded "warlords'ish" at first, but when I read the lyrics and translation, I can sort of imagine this at some kind of party.

My question about Baba Yetu was rhetorical, but thanks for your explanation ;)

n00bs, its obviously nordic. theres even long boats in the background too.

Yeah its an arabic-lebanese song, and it was so weird to hear it as an intro..its really folklorik and old

I havent heard it but if firaxis or a native speaker says it Lebanese Arabic, I would trust them:p

I foolishly tried to capture the lyrics, so...

HAL SA LADE BASTADA HUDE HALSTAGA ALBER-DUGH ALBIE-DOUGH PEICE OF RUM

Then I gave up.

Keep in mind I'm a romantic at heart (cough):mischief:

So it's a love song... that's probably better suited to a game like Warlords than some pumped up heavy metal / industrial / whatever OR the proverbial Gregorian (gregorial?) Christian Hymn stuff that seems to pop up everywhere these days...

Picture this: What keeps a young soldier going for days on end, let's him keep hope and gives him motivation to make it back *alive*?

No - not his mom-away-from-home (the sarge) but his sweetheart...
Sooo.... methinks this might actually be a good choice for an opening theme / main menu music.
Yes there is war. Yes the world will not make sense for a (long) time. But! There is also the promise of a return home, a return to sanity. Salvation.

Like I said, I'm probably reading way to much into this but I'm a romantic and a bit whimsical at the moment :D

i cant believe you people beleive that crap. its nordic. simple. why would there be a viking longship with some arab music? wow thats great use of media. using irrelevant things thrown together.

untrained monkeys can see (and hear) that its nordic.

it's not turkish, It sounds like arabic but not nordic lol
If you want just try to listen an arabic song ,sting's desert rose is a good start there were arabic parts :) and you'll see that accent is the same!

If we're debating language, look solely at lyrics rather than the musical context they're in. Everything in melodic minor keys has that turkish-arabic feel to it.

this is bullfeathers. wasting my time here. the music is almost identical to the music played to the Ragnar Leaderhead. so nerr

Nah, its clearly French. Why else would there be a blue background? ;)

ok, ill let that slide cos you guys aren't saying that its a language from the other side of the planet that 3 people know and is restricted to one 3x3meter island between Singapore and Borneo.

but it does hit me to think that if its a viking backdrop, viking related music would help set the theme, not sunni islam, not kurdish or shi'ite islam, not a curruption of an anceint form of turkish that is now only used as poison in a language dart fired from ankara with the idea that it can reach orbit and set a new age for turkish space flight thanks to their obsolete language.
