What language is the opening menu warlords music singing in?

The Trojan War ("spawned from Paris's love for Helen of Sparta") were not actually due to Paris taking Helen from her husband. The truth was that it was an excuse for the ruler of Greece to go to war alongside his brother (the husband) to take over the "unbeatable" city of Troy with "impenetrable walls". But that's all history "blah blah blah" anyway.

Not to forget Troy was also a greek city.
It was kind a civil war.
Greece that time was made up of city states. Unified greek state did not exist that time.

AFAIK an alliance of cities from the greek tribe Akhai destroyed Troy in Homer's epic.
But scientists think it was destroyed by a huge fire in reality not warfare.

or earthquake. as earthquakes are common there. and what form does the greek god of earthqaukes take? a horse of course :)

well its arabic, lebanese accent (very proud that a song from my country is in a game like warlords, the best game ever made) its pretty old, more like 40 years, and in my opinion the sound of the singer and the song match the warlord theme, cz it was first played in a play where the era in the script was around that time (like the one in the intro)

Nobody think of the most obvious that probably someone at Firaxis really like this song.

They could have put Eagles' Hotel California in but this is much more unknown to the most of the World (outside the Lebanon area).

And to be honest i like it too (and fits the mood) but i generally like folkish songs.
Folk-rock is the best.
Baba-yetu sounded too sentimental to me.

In the future i may change this song (A Nadda) to Ten's Remembrance for the brave or some other good, powerful folk-rock song.
It's all up to us.

It would be great if someone remixed this song to danceable.
A lot of people like Tarkan's music. This is very similar.

yeah i have it on vynl and i play it thru my ghetto blaster

That is the exact way it is written in the Horrible History books. Tee hee.

Funny thread. Even more amusing some thing it would be something scandinavian. Im swedish and it sounds nothing like it. However it sounds quite similar to the language all the arabic immigrants speak or the language they spoke when I was in Morocco for a month.

PS. I like the song

i thought it sounded germanic... but i'm American and have heard very little languages other than Italian(my family), Spanish, French, and a few different Asian languages.

EDIT: I think it was the "howzer" part of the song

now I can confirm that it's part of the song which lyrics were written in the link in the 1st page and it's a folkish song it's truly a love song but even arabic speakers like me can hardly know that without reading the lyrics along so it make a good theme as a warlord theme music

Wow, so that's actually a language?

I always thought a few Firaxis guys went to Wal-Mart, bought some plastic Viking armor, showed up wasted to Karaoke night, and spewed out manly-sounding gibberish.

Thanks to the guy that pointed out where Baba Yetu is, I'll be swapping back to the old music...

Its Arabic, I liked it ALOT, I think Firaxis did really well with the opening songs for both games. I'm an arab so I was a bit confused by the love song, but from the way I interpreted it is that the subject might be a land rather than just a person, so its love for a land, I'd tear down the mountains for my country. Its a bit of a long way to go, but I think it can work as an interpretation.

Its not really that far to go, arabic songs almost always have several meanings, depending on how you want to interpret them. So it could easily be song for your country.

The quote above strengthens my belief that children should not be allowed on the internet.

I take offense at that. I am personally a more violent person(football+wrestling) and I prefer the new song. I actually use to turn down the volume until the game loaded because all that peaceful hippy crap annoys me. My family isn't American, so the "foreign" part of the song has no effect whatsoever on me. I have also never woon a game of Civ in which I didn't kill at least one civilization(time victories don't count).

The production team for Civ4 and warlords *clearly* has put some humor into this game on purpose. No doubt the opening theme being a love song was done on purpose, probably for irony

A random to story to share with y'all concerning this song:

Back in the day, I went to a Jewish camp and we did Israeli dancing every Friday night. One of the more popular dances was to a song that we called Ya Abboud. Of course, I hadn't thought about this song in many moons. That is, until I installed Warlords. One day, I got distracted and left it on the main menu for a while. As I was listening to the full length of the music, I thought, "why does this sound familiar and why do I like it so much?" Sure enough, Al Nadda is the same song as Ya Abboud. No, I didn't burst out in dance. Nonetheless, I was pretty pleased. It's a small Al Nadda world after all.

To Wionio: so Footballers and Wrestlers *ARE* more violent people! Whoever said it's "just a sport" eh?

Again, and I'll be honest, my music training told me it wasn't a war song, as real war songs are usually major or more similar to a major key, more rythmic, and certainly unlikely to have such a wide range of pitches. National anthems are often war-like, but just so that it's kept in a pitch-range that most people can sing comfortably. This was too emotional to be a war song.

But a love song?! No, I did NOT expect that. I did, however, correctly guessed that it was Arabic. Just because it sounded Arabic, not that I could speak even a word of it.
