What Would the Community Think (1996) and Moon Pix (1998) by Cat Power
I hadn't listened to either of these in years, but I ran across a "Best Albums of 1998" list somewhere, and felt compelled to give them a whirl. It was like bumping into an old girlfriend and finding that she's still cool and doesn't hate me. On the indie rock/alternative folk shelf with Elliot Smith and Beth Orton.
Wow, there's a blast from the past. I had a heavy trip-hop/electronic/acid jazz phase in what seems like another lifetime, during which Do You Like My Tight Sweater? got a lot of play.
15-16 years ago there was a lab down the hall from my office that said "Theory of Computation" on the door and, out of the corner of my eye, I always misread it as "Thievery Corporation." It always made me do a double-take.
Here's another classic of the genre, especially appropriate to 4/20 even though I don't smoke anymore:
p.s. It took me at least a year to figure out what a "car boot" was.
