And why does Steam have a "CES 2014 Demo Comp" listed as a package for Civilization V

Well CES 2014 is a Consumer Electornics Show. But why could Civ 5 need a seperate demo for it?

Probably the Consumer Electronics Show, which is held in Las Vegas every January.

"The CES 2014 North America Conference March 14-16, 2014"

Why are the devs having a custom demo ready for the CES?.... #speculation

I could be crazy, Menzies crazy, but they've been fairly silent about the "end of CiV development" and everything else involving further development. Much like before the last two expansions were announced. #justsayin

Also, a dead game gets a free scenario with custom art assets? Worst business model ever.

Agreed.. something's fishy

I mean we still are owed a patch to fix multiplayer and other minor things, but there is just something "fishy".. I'm curious excited but am not expecting anything big. (well I am.. lol)

And this also seems to be happening strangely around the same time that Brave New World was announced

And seeing as last time we discovered the whole "ONe World" thing... they KNEW about it (as Polycast revealed) so they would most likely be more sneakier about hiding it from us this time around.

Didnt a "Gold" edition of CiV get released before the announce of BNW? Much like a Complete edition...

I have no idea myself. But, a quick Google search did find something. This fascinating* page.

Mind you, this seems to bring up more questions than answers, in this case. From what I can tell, it's a US-exclusive package with certain games in it. What connection do they have with CES? I have no idea.

*Your definition of "fascinating" may be totally different to mine, and you might find the page totally boring, in which case, I don't blame you.

Heres where I'm at in my conspiratorial mind: In the interviews leading up to BNW release, they consistently said they felt like BNW would finish CiV BUT that they'd wait and see how the community felt. I got the impression, from these forums, that colonization was a feature and period many felt still needed to be addressed. A deafening silence from the developers followed release, save for some balance patches. Flash forward 6 months and we're given a deluxe CONQUEST OF THE NEW WORLD scenario free, complete with new resources and art. Followed by, you guessed it, more silence from the developers.

Maybe its just me but colonization being resoundingly called for, followed by silence typical of the last two announcements, and then a redone colonization scenario thrown at us out of the blue is mega suspicious.

I was referring to that.

But I also know this...

I swear I've seen something being recorded with the "developers" which striked me as a tad odd... and the activity seems to be strange including a picture of Sitting Bull related to "concept art'.

Let the conspiracy commence!

I wouldn't discount some more DLC to tide us over until Civ VI comes out. This'll be interesting to follow.

If there is another expansion, I will probably throw money at Firaxis.

Especially if Empires of the Smokey Skies: Redux: Part Deux: Electric Boogaloo is part of the offering.

There's at least few concepts they could explore still with Civ 5.

1. They could add concepts of penalties (instead of everything being added on, there's barely any penalty). So Health, Cost opportunities (adopting a certain policy locks you out of another or slows something down.)

2. They could expand and improve the Science Victory (so it's a lot more exciting and difficult to achieve like Cultural victory, and to some extent Diplomatic)

3. They could add the Colonization concept and some make it more exciting to settle distand lands..

There's always something ready to be added and made official.

All I would like for a third expansion pack to do is add something that would make the game more dynamic and more "sandboxy" as opposed to just straight downright boardgame. It's still a clickfest.

I get the feeling at least the first point and possibly the second will only appear once Civ VI comes out. However, the colonization thing would be very cool and could implemented relatively easily in a "mini" expansion pack (a few new mechanics and a couple more Civs.)

The main thing I'm wondering is whether this might not be more Civ V DLC but instead a spin-off game. I was discounting that possibility before hearing about this new depot, but a demo does imply a full game to me (though I guess it could just be something to show off new features for the base Civ V game).

I can only imagine what those people who called Gold Edition a misleading name would have to say about the Complete Edition :P
