what to do with obsolete units?

You would be able to bombard, but miss every time since there is nothing left do destroy.

with frigates bombarding improved tiles of some rival in democracy or republic can very fast lead him to change government, bcs each improvement destroyed raises war wearness with one point.

What would happen if all the units in a city were red-lined AND all the city improvements are destroyed AND the city is down to 1 population?
If there are no valid targets left to bombard then you will no longer be able to select that tile. A red circle with a line through it will appear, just as it does if you try to target an empty tile.

Unless the unit has leathal bombardment. Then you can kill the units.

i noticed in the editor that there is also the possibility to check the colateral damage box and that should i think , allow the destruction of population and city improvements more often ...... this is what it says in the editor , i did try it and i'm noticing that it does work a little but still the priority goes to units more then the improvements and the population

Thanks for all the responses.

I have Conquests. Can anyone verify that this was changed in Conquests like TimBentley said?

I don't have proof, but I rarely see any improvements being destroyed, only units, at least until I've been bombarding the city for awhile. I'd say it was changed, it doesn't work at all the way it used to. Frankly, I liked it better before.

yeah before it was better ...cos it was more real to loose population and improvements , they could have just combined unit loss with it
